Static shadows off, dynamic shadows on. Lights ppl up like a christmas tree
Since 1.3 this seems not to work anymore. Please take a look if you can set your Lightning to low and enable (either Low, Medium, High) Dynamic Shadows. If i switch them on, BF2 seems to disable them again.
Yes, yes i can

From what I've seen what you're getting has only happened on systems with Nvidia cards, my bros does the same as you he has a 6800GT, mine has all the settings it always had (ATi X800XT PE btw).
Merde - how our french friends would say. Yes i got a Nvidia 7900 GT, i would like to know if there is any way to enable them again. Let's create a topic in the help forum...

Everything high. I consider turning shadows off for the purpose of seeing people an EA-condoned hack, and pretty lame that you have to turn off shadows to boost your e-penis, err, game score.

All settings on high and shadows ON.  It's cool to see someone walking up on you trying to knife you, turn around and cap'em in the head or knife them instead......which is something I'm not very good at.  I've seen people hiding on buildings because they cast shadows, otherwise I'd have never seen them.

Hmm..how about an ATI700x I have, what would you guys recommend? Right now I have it set at:

Lighting : Low
Shadows:Off
Dynamic Lighting: Off
Texture:High
Effects:High
Geometry:High
Anti-aliasing:4x

I know thats not the best but since the 1.3 I've been playing around with the crappy graphic card I have. Buy another one you say? nah, not yet, want to wait for certain games to come out before I waste more money.

If u want it pretty everything as high as possible

If u want to make seeing things easier, terrain low textures high, geo high, dyn lighting high, dyn shadows (anything but off) lighting low (if it'll let you with dynamic shadows) AA x whatever, anything over x2 is pretty superfluous.

800x600 is the lowest res you can put it on.
Nope, you can have any res you want; Rightclick on BF2 icon on desktop, in target you add:" +szx 640 +szy 480" or whatever you want. Its harder to read all texts in the game espeissialy the serverbrowser.

BTW what is Geometry?

According to tweakguides.com
Geometry: The Geometry setting controls the Level of Detail (LOD) setting for various objects and landscape in the game. The options are Low, Medium and High and for most intents and purposes there is virtually no difference between the three levels. At higher levels certain objects will appear more detailed, such as rounder boulders and more curved landscape (i.e. more polygons visible). More importantly, at the higher levels vehicles will come into view sooner when far away, as more of their details are shown earlier. Obviously performance is better at the lowest level, but the extent of it depends on your system. For the reason that it may help you detect vehicles sooner, you may want to set this to Medium or High.

Oh, and I have a mid to low end pc with shadows ON.

I have all the graphics settings on high.
I have thought about changing the settings to tweak an extra few meters of range, or to see into the shadows, but in the end I just cant be bothered!
Maybe my game would improve if I did?

If you have all settings High, then tweaking them isn't going to make a difference to range. Turning shadows off will help you see into shadows.

Would your game improve? Depends what hardware you've got and how many more fps you're gonna get with shadows off...

Shadows off and dynamic light off - because all Buildings are Bright inside with these settings.

I run:
Terrain > medium
Effects > high
Geometry > high
Texture > high
Lighting > medium
Dynamic shadows > medium
Dynamic light > meduim
Anti-Aliasing > off
Texture Filtering > meduim

For SF I turn all lighting to off.

I find it no difference finding people with old GFX car (no shadows) and my new one (with shadows). The only difference is, when your trying to find someoen you can see there muzzle flash if there in the next room or around the corner for example.
