Not speaking for Skruples, but the problem for me is I simply cannot stand it when someone feels the need to cram their beliefs/religion down my throat. There is a difference between saying "this is Jesus, this is his book, you should look at this," And saying "You are a lost soul, you're going to hell if you don't believe, SINNER, etc." I believe in tolerance above all else. When you come in here and say that what you believe is the truth, that my belief will send me to hell, that I am wrong, that my BELIEFS are wrong, then you are showing a lack of tolerance to my beliefs....a lack of respect towards me. Why should anyone then turn around and show tolerance to you...or show respect to you. It's works both ways my friend.+CGO+BringerofLight wrote:

Did you really think my post was an attack? If anyone here doesn't believe in God then how could 'lost souls' bother them? Perhaps it touched a place deep inside that they or you don't like messed with? I didn't make up those words, they are straight from God's Holy Word, the bible.
Funny how you can't refute God's words and you label me "holier than thou" as an attack. I am not perfect, just forgiven.

I don't believe in god. Think god and religion is the worst thing to ever happen to this planet.
On the other hand is someone finds Solis in it let them be. If they want to play BF2 and talk about god so be it. Leave them alone ffs. Everyone has there own opinion. From what I read here, religion isn't being forced on anyone. Don't believe in god?...... don't go to church or play on their server. It doesn't make you cool because you are anti god, makes you cool if you leave other ppl to get on with their own shit.

Please. Go to any school, college, library and pick up any History text book. There...that's several hundred that are more accurate. However, I'll agree that they all probably have some amount of inconcistancies. Some text books are different depending on what part of the world you are on and that regions perspective of certain time periods. And this coming from books written in the last 10, 20, 30 years. Now let's take the Bible. It may be alleged to be the "word of god." But no matter how you represent it....it was written by man....FACT. Not only that but it was rewritten by man over and over, translated by man over and over, handed down and re-written and re-translated by man, over and over. Not to mention there are several different versions of the bible. And you actually believe that through all that everything written in there is 100% correct? More accurate than something written this year, or last year, or 5 years ago??? Yes, there are some accounts of actual events in there, but to say it is the most accurate historical book ever is just plain ignorant and/or gullible.Aslan_the_Creator wrote:

And you say Religion is a bad thing? I wont -1 you, But I think your statement has no merit.
Unfortunately when some Christians share the word, it is interpreted as the Holier than thou attitute. In actuallity, they are just trying to do what Christians are called upon to do, spread the word. Every Christian will have a different way of sharing, just like in life there are people that rub you the wrong way with what or how they say things.Toxin wrote:

Christians belive that Jesus died and rose again to ensure our spot in Heaven. If you don't beleive that, according to the Bible, you will not be spending time in eternity. Not judging just reading my book and trying to live it out. I am tolerant and can't tell you that you are WRONG for not believing but I will try my darndest to talk to you about it because Jesus died for ALL of us.
At the end of the day, I believe what I believe and that makes me what I am (stolen from a song) and you believe what you believe and that makes you what you are. I'm not going to change your mind (hopefully I will but probably not) and you're not going to change mine. There needs to be a mutual respect between all beliefs.
At our death we will find out the real truth but no one on earth can prove God exists or doesn't. We believe it on faith and faith alone.
God is NOT a petty OR vengeful God, no matter what the Old Testament says.
God doesn't care if you believe in him or not. God doesn't care if you pray to him by saying his name every day. God is God.
God knows that when you watch the sunset, you are thanking him. When you see a flower bloom, you are praying to him. When you kiss your love for the first time (though I recommend not looking for random people to kiss, it could lead to jail-time), God knows you worship his creations.
God cares about how you live your life. Are you gentle? Are you kind? Do you look at your neighbour's face, and though he stole from you, do you forgive him? Though he disagrees with you, do you still give him water?
Jesus means love. Jesus means forgiveness. Jesus means hope. Jesus does not mean petty squabbling amongst a bunch of people on a internet website. How to define "Jesus" fully is still up for interpretation, however.
Let the Christians do their thing, folks. It's their job as Christians. And Christians, be careful of pride. Especially when someone provokes you.
/Yes, I'm being both magnanimous and pretentious at the same time. This is what I do. I'm trying to save the world.
//And no, you can't guess my personal religious flavour from this post.

Agreed. Some people come off a tad more harsh than others. I understand that spreading the word is all part of the Christian religion. And I'm fine with that....when someone speaks to me as an equal. But when someone starts off by belitting me and talking down to me like I'm some "lost soul" that has no clue what's going on, then I am immediately annoyed. What's that old adage: "You'll get more flies with honey than with vinegar." That speaks volumes. I'm much more apt to sit down and listen to someone when they respect my beliefs and understand that I can think for myself. Feel free to give me the details and present your case...but don't try and cram it down my throat with threats of eternal damnation and attacks on my personal beliefs.kkolodsick wrote:

As long as you know when to quit...or at least to leave it alone for awhile. Nobody should be nagged or badgered into a religion. They need to research everything and then look inside themselves to understand what is right for them. Someone nagging them every day, "so are you ready to accept Christ...or you going to burn in hell forever," should never be the way to bring someone into the fold.kkolodsick wrote:

Agree on both points. On a side note, while I do understand why Christians constantly preach the word, I believe this is one of the reasons Christianity takes the beating that it does sometimes. People don't like being told what to do...and less like being told what to think/believe. It's the mentality of having a religion or belief structure crammed down your throat on a regular basis that makes people so venomous towards people like that.kkolodsick wrote:

Alright well if you don't want to believe there is a God in Heaven then thats your choice.
Let me ask you this though.
Would you rather trust in a God in Heaven who sent His only Son to Die for your Sins so you could be forgiven and live a life for him so when you die you will escape the second death which is Hell (the lake of fire) and live with God in a New Heaven Forever?
or
Would you rather live the way you want? Then say you die tomorrow and wow uh heres God and he doesn't look happy with me uhh Wow I guess you do exist. I'm sorry.....God says away from me I never knew you! Then you spend eternity in Hell being tortured with the worst type of pain you couldn't even imagine.
Well which would you choose?
This is just a way to look at it. I didn't accept Christ because I was scared of Hell I accepted Christ for what He Did for me dieing for me so that I could live with Him in Heaven forever.
We were made to Glorify God not to live a life bound by sin.
Hell is the Punishment for sin and nothing I could ever do could pay for that sin only Christ's death and resurrection were acceptable payment for my sin. That is why I love him for what He did for me while I was still a sinner.
This is not a attack on anyone just want to explain why I believe what I do.

Grammar aside, this is the kind of Christian that pisses me off. The kind that presumes to pass judgement on everyone else based simply on their beliefs. My understanding of Christianity is understandably limited, but the last time I checked God is the only one who decides who goes to heaven, not you or anyone else. That being said, I find it odd that if being Christian is requisite for going to heaven, 2/3 of the world's population is doomed to eternal damnation, but apparently God loves us all. Forgive my ignorance, but there seems to be a conflict of logic there. Are the children born in remote areas, who have no access to the bible going to hell? Are the peoples of Asia going to hell because the dominant religion there is not Christianity? Forgive my arrogance, but the God Striker describes sounds like an asshole.
What bakarocket said seems to make more sense. That living a good life and being a good person is more important than going to church every sunday. I find it hard to believe that all the wonderful buddhists and Jews and members of every other religion I've ever met are going to hell, but a christian can be a horrible person and still go to heaven if they get their absolution in. And finally, heres something from Isaac Asimov:
I don't believe in an afterlife, so I don't have to spend my whole life fearing hell, or fearing heaven even more. For whatever the tortures of hell, I think the boredom of heaven would be even worse.
Far be it from me to cast aspersions upon people of any faith, but religion has a more bloody, violent, and controversial history than that which you're likely to see in any round of Karkand. Starting with the Israel-Palestine conflict which has never ceased in the past two millennia, winding its way through the "Cross and Crescent" battles of the 600s and 700s, through the Crusades of the Middle Ages, the violently proselytizing missionaries of the 17th and 18th centuries, and modern-day religious extremists, there is very little loving for one's fellow man and a whole lot of senseless, self-righteous bloodshed.
When I say "modern-day religious extremists," I really mean to say "terrorists". And no, as annoying as that Jehovah's Witness who bangs on your door until you pop a flaming bag of dookie out your mail slot is, he doesn't count. I mean folks like the Ku Klux Klan (don't forget that their burning crosses are a fitting tribute to the Protestantism they so fervently embrace), the Irish Republican Army, the Kabbalah, etc.
What am I trying to say? A game like Battlefield 2 fits right into this picture, doesn't it? After all, the branches of the US military have chaplains, so I guess instead of a portable altar and an aluminum-covered Bible, Christian BF2 players can take a smoke grenade and an M16A2. Hell, if IRA and KKK members can hold an AK-47 in one hand and a Bible in the other, I say a devout Christian can log into BF2 and frag with the unwashed masses if he so desires. Just don't use God's name in vain, or you'll get kicked.
A postscript to the above: No, I do not consider myself religious, and as is probably evident enough from my tone, I take any sanctimonious, holier-than-thou persons of religion with a grain of salt. I just feel it's stupid to hold it against Christians for playing on their own BF2 server. You can pick on them all you want for their supercilious attitudes, blind faith in what boils down to circumstantial evidence, etc. But let them have their own server, for God's sake.
