Can anybody explain to me how the kills work in relation to getting this badge.
I know the requirement for veteran is 20 kills and expert 30.Does this mean to say that if i was playing a map and i got 20 kills (veteran badge)that i only need another 10 for expert?

Or if i got the 20 kills for a veteran that i would then still have to get another 30 for expert.

This question only relates to playing in one round.
I´d rather do it at the same time and just get 30 kills and get both than 50 kills.

U need to get 30 kills IAR for Expert, so either when u allready had 20 IAR and then received Veteran, then the answer is yes u need 10 more kills in that SAME round to get Expert.
But if u allready have Veteran and the rounded ended for example then u need to get 30 kills in the next round

also another bit of advice, use claymores, you can easily get 30 in a round, if you put them in decent places!

You need 20 kills In A Round via explosives (Mine, C4, or Claymore) to get Veteran and 30 kills In A Round to get Expert. If you get 20 kills in a round, but then the round ends you need to get another 30 kills in a new round for Expert. Understand? Each new round just resets your kills needed for the In A Round requirement.

My personal advice is to use the enviornment to your advantage. If you see crates lay a Claymore around the side of them so they don't see it until it's too late; people won't run towards something they see. The best map without a doubt is Warlord in the Special Forces expansion. Be SAS and go cap the 3rd Floor of the Palace at the begining of the round, but lay some Claymores around some corners so if someone decides to run in and try to save the cap, Boom! If you're lucky you'll get some nice Palace battles going on in which you can get 10-12 kills per battle. One side will eventually take the other over, but don't fret. The other side will always come back and take a flag back. This is how I got my Veteran and Expert.

Yes, I wasn't in the Palace, but soon my young Padawan you will learn the ways of the Clays and you too will truely be an Explosives Expert.
