Hello everyone . I just recently bought (for my agp slot) the ATI Radeon X850XT, which is running awesomely on bf2. My only complaint is that from a distance, lines aren't straight, they are really sketchy. Here is a picture of it I uploaded, the point is the pole and how not straight it is.

Here's the Question.

Is there a way I can fix that?

Make sure you have AA (Anti alaising or w/e) on, as this smooths the lines. If you already have it on, then sorry I can't help you

Yeah, that's anti aliasing. It tells the video card to add pixels of a blended color inbetween those jumps to greatly smooth out those lines.

the #x (2x, 4x, 8x, 16x etc) AA refers to how many passes the videocard will make over the image. The more AA you have, the longer it will take for the videocard to render the image resulting in lower framerates.

For that card, I would suggest 2x. You can try 4x, but it'll probobly lag on 64 man servers.

Ah, should I keep the graphics on high if I do the anti-aliasing?

Based on the performance I get from my X800, I'd say you're probably going to have to down the graphics settings a little here and there - how much depends on what level of AA you go for - my X800 handles 2x with almost no perceivable drop in framerate... Dropping the screen resolution one notch is often the best place to start - 800x600 with 2x AA is almost, but not quite (due to the way the AA works), equivalent to 1600x1200...

Open up the command console (default's to that button just to left of the '1' on a US keyboard) and type :

renderer.drawfps 1

or use Fraps.

I need a bit of advice, my computer is descent spec, its just over 2 years old, but in all honesty, buying a new computer isn’t worth it at the moment, the improvements would not justify shelling out two grand or more.  Anyway, I was wondering, what card shall I buy, friends of mine say the 7800 GTX, but, I don’t want to spend all that on an upgrade, I will get a new computer in around 12 months so not at all pleased about spending such large volumes, when there will be improved products out in 12 months, which I will get with the new system.  Basically, I want to know what card will run the game on as high a graphical setting as possible on a budget of £100-150.

Thank you

Post your current spec. If you're going to be getting a new PC in 12months it may not worth upgrading at all at this point - all depends on what you've currently got and just how much improvement your going to see for that £150.

I have a Shuttle PC (1/3 the size of a normal PC) - AMD FX64 3500+, nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX 256mb, 2GB DDR RAM... I play bf2 on total low gphx, always pick performance over quality. btw shadows and AA make players harder to see =S

While I'm at it, can anyone recommend me settings for a nVidia 6200 Turbo Cache? It is actually below the min req (I think) but it works, just goes haywire sometimes.

I recommend that you sell that piece of trash and get at least a 6600gt, x1600, x800gto, or a 6800gs.

oh wait, you said settings? everything at its lowest.

Bell, try getting an nVidia 6800** (NOT the 6800XT) card. If you can find one, that is. Otherwise, look into a 7600gt, x1600pro, or an x800.

An 850XT should be able to handle things pretty well.  I forget how they compare but I run a 7800GT 256 at high with AA at 4x, 1280x1024 and have no problems.

I wish i was rich . I can only afford a RADEON 9550, and i get an average of 20-15 fps, and i still am able to own .
