a lot of times it's well done. like when some kid comes on here and posts a thousand times because he's been allowed on the internet without parental supervision for the first time. or for example when the patch came out and people were simultaneously creating multiple threads to address the exact same bug, that was annoying.
a lot of it is just search snobbery, though. admins/moderators should weigh whether or not new threads that pertain to topics already covered are worth shutting down. when new players get on here and ask questions it provides older players an opportunity to empart knowledge directly - contributing to a less insular social atmosphere and greater longevity for the community. community is what the forums are all about, after all. re-opening of discussion also allows veteran players to chime in on the topics when they might not have before, this is positive because, as with the commander thread which was just closed, a person like myself is unlikely to search for commander topics just to express my two cents. why shut down somebody's conversation? if it's irrelevent then a lack of posts will make that obvious. if people in the community would like to gain knowledge through interaction rather than the search/wiki/ubar/faq than let them and drop a link in the thread.
