After reading these forums for a while, it suddenly hit me.
How many of you have poured hundreds of pounds/dollars into your machine after you began playing this game? I know I have. From reading these posts quite a lot of people have too.

The truth is, if I didn't own this game I would be more than content with just a gig of ram and my XFX geforce 5200.

However, that game sitting on my shelf is asking, nay, demanding for better components, more ram, a better hard drive. You name it, it wants it, so it can look as pretty as possible.

This is where my point comes in. This game has influenced you to spend money where you wouldn't normally have considered it, thus helping out many different companies. nVidea, ATI etc., they're all benefitting.

What has this got to do with anything? Isn't it obvious, BF2 was introduced to deliberately encourage such lavish spending on these computers, taking money that would have been spent on such overratted things such as food and justly giving it to the computer industry.

The reason? Technological advances are becoming slower, sure, things are becoming more powerful all the time, but it's simply more of the same thing. Nothing is truly original. By funding as diverse range as possible, Dice and EA are hoping to see some new advances in technology. Not only are they gaining money now from their games, but with the introduction of newer, more expensive technology in the future they are looking to increase their profit margins even further.

What can we do about it? Simple, forsake your new technology and revert to older technology until the whole thing has blown over. You may even discover a lost love for the text-based games of yesteryear.

Dude, every new game that comes out is fueling the hardware industry... Oblivion is more taxing on computers than BF2. I didn't upgrade my comp just for BF2, but games in general do drive the high-end hardware market.
