You really only need a full tower for a server, or workstation type machine. For any normal gaming, or regular rig, use a mid tower.

I like full tower. More room to work around in and better airflow for cooling.

Full tower can put more drives in there and have more fans (better cooling)

Uh, I highly doubt you guys mean a full tower. My old 486 is a full tower and it has 6, if not more, 5 1/2" bays. It fills the entire space between the floor and the bottom of the table.

What everyone uses today is a mid-tower.

My first build was a full tower...  Took up too much room and was a bitch to haul to lans...

Good air flow / room to work with though...

Buy a mid tower and you will be happy unless you want a huge monger case!

Everyone is correct.  Full tower is just more room to work and better cooling.

And yes it looks better as well.

I think lot of confusion is caused by what case makers now call a 'full tower' case, my current rig is in a Thermaltake Shark case which is marketed as a 'full tower' & has five 5 1/4" bays yet my old rig is set up as a server in an old beige AOpen case which was sold as a 'half tower' & has six 5 1/4" bays.....

Anyhoo, I would always go for a larger case (no matter what they call it) for the same reasons as previously posted - they are easier to work on, there's more room for drives, more room for fans & therefore better cooling

Does anyone here have an extended ATX motherboard?  Most of the brand name PCs (dell,hp) have motherboards that are mico ATX size and have a smaller Midtower form factor,  some midtowers will fit ex-ATX boards but you should always beable to fit one in a full tower.  A lot of the cases have fewer 5 1/2" bays and more 3 1/2" internal bays for hard drives.  You only need two optical drives, but more and more people are doing RAID configurations.

Eh, that's a mid-tower. Add another foot or so and you've got a full-tower.

My case is 21" tall and it's a mid-tower:

THIS is a full tower:
