Seriously though, it makes NO sense. Ok so yea server can cost a lot of money to buy, but the amount of money game server companies charge per month will cover the cost of the server in less than a half a year. I also understand bandwidth may be a problem. That is partly the fault of the US. We are really behind countries like Japan where their standard DSL package runs at 30 mb/s.
What really pisses me off is why RANKED servers cost more than unranked. I'm assuming the only difference between the two is one has to send information to a master EA server and the other doesn't. Big deal. Its not like there's some guy entering all the numbers manually. It is all done by the dedicated server program. The only reason I can think of is that EA charges game companies to allow them access to their master server. Which I think is stupid. They're already rolling in cash from charging for every little BF2 addition ($30 SF mod, $10 X 2 for six new maps).
Would someone like to explain to me why game servers (both BF2 and other games) cost so much? Would someone like to lay out some numbers for me? +Karma to whoever answers with a decent thought.
I far as I can tell the prices are inflated. Just like the cost of gas.

PS. On a totally unrelated topic, if EA adds a new map to the next patch, it be the best thing they've done in a long time.
