Since this question wasn't answered in a previous thread i decided to post a new topic....

What is the best program to use to record gameplay footage?

I use fraps and it lags the crap out of my computer whenever i enable it, so im lookin for an alternative.

Battlerecorder is no good becuase you cant record in the first person, as far as i know...

--Im tryin to get into the making gameplay videos and stuff, if anyone has any tips please share..

-Thanks

I think there is a program called VirtualDub or something.  A lot of people reccomend it, but for some odd reason It won't install on my computer. Hope that helps.

First of all, Fraps IS the best program to use to record in-game. The reason it seems so laggy is because your system cannot handle recording and playing at the same time. I recommend lowering your settings in-game to see if that helps with the lag, or add some more RAM to your rig.

Second of all, VirtualDub is a program to edit video files that you have recorded with a program like Fraps, and then output those files as avi so you can continue to edit them more in a program like Windows Movie Maker or Adobe Premiere.

ok thanks, i went into Virtual Dub and was tryin to figure out how to record footage with it...lol

I wouldnt really understand how fraps can be affecting my computer that bad,

I have an amd athlon 64 3400- gig of ram-and a pretty crappy video card (GeForce FX5200 xt)

because of my video card i already run the game on lowest for better performance...

I havn't checked in a while but i dont think a gig of ram is outdated...is it?

The problem is probably your video card-- a 5200 just won't cut it these days...I had a 5900xt and it could barely handle medium when I overclocked it pretty far

Depends on if your RAM is dual channel or just a single stick of 1 GB.

And yeah, it might be your video card by the looks of it.

It is 2 sticks of 512 to answer your question, and the problem with my computer is...
It comes with a crappy power supply and in order for me to upgrade my vid card to a better one i would have to replace the power supply(prolly to a 500 watt), thats like 150 bucks down the drain, and im not ready to drop like 500 bucks on a power supply/video card right now...

Its ganna have to be soon though... I hate how fast computers go out of date..lol

Thanks for your help everyone, i guess im just ganna have to take footage standing still, haha

The weird thing is sometimes it doesnt lag me at all, ive never experienced any lag from it on Wake for example, dont kow if it was just the server or the map... w.e

VirtualDub is one of the best programs out there for resizing, recompressing your video file, but as Trigger said, not for capturing or editing purposes. If you have any problem with installing it/using it, go and read a little here: http://www.doom9.org/
Don't give up after 1 minute! While it's all pretty easy, the things you can do are so immense, that it requires a little of reading for the average 'video-noob' to obtain the veteran video badge…

Cheers,
R

I have a 450 Watt PSU for my 7800GT and it works fine, so 500 Watt would be a little overkill.

It you really lag that much, make sure that you have closed all background programs so that just explorer.exe and BF2 are running in your user account and see if that helps.

As far as I remember you could have 1st person view in the battlerecorder demos - from the perspective of any player in the round. I think right click toggled it, and then you shifted person in the Q menu (or was it T?).

Soz for revisiting an old thread but in SA a BF2 vid has never been done so we going for a 1st here so any help would be appreciated. TY

WRT VirtualDub, for the fraps clip recorded, apparently the way to go is DivX 5.11 compression correct? Is there any way to increase the quality of the compressed AVI just a little? cos Fraps' vids are 100+mb and after virtual dub compresses 'em down, they look like sh!t (can't even read text).

So please can anyone shed some light here. Thanks in Advance.

{{this is not asking for BattleRecorder help so please don't point me to that post ty }}
