Ok....I was in the middle of a game and i get this weird noise thru my speakers...kinda like a screetch.
Anyway, bf2 closes, comp freezes. After i reboot, i start bf2, only to see that my account has to be recovered, stats are erased, etc. WTF. Anyone have some sort of explanation???

thanks

Is everything else still working ok ?

That actually sounds pottentially really quite serious - keep a carefull eye on your computer for a while. If anything 'out of the ordinary' happens do a complete reinstall of everything. If things are still not working well. Your HDD or motherboard may be on its way out...

Or it could just be 'one of those things'...

Yeah, I'd be careful. I had something similair happen but instead when I tried to reboot my computer wouldn't read my HD and I could not even re-format it. I ended up having to buy a new HD. Funny thing is, after I got everything going on my new HD it did the same thing but this time I was still lucky enough to be able to reboot my computer. I later found out that Creative had released a new software patch that dealt with a CPU/HD utilization issue. I have it installed now and have had no problems since. If you have a Creative made sound card (i.e. Soundblaster) you might want to try going to their website and running theirt auto-update program.

I had the same thing happen to me, well not exactly.. your stats will come back, prolly just a coincidence. I had an Audgiy 2 ZS that did the same thing before I had to send it back and get a replacement. Started screeching and popping so I took it out and the main chip on the card had a burn on the corner. If you have onboard audio however this could be a real problem.

The aliens were trying to communicate with you through your computer.. however our primitive hardware could not handle the complex message.

You should get that checked out... sounds like something on your system burped real-good.  As far as the audio-squeel goes, I think that may have been a sound getting stuck in an infinite loop as the system started to crash...

You should email EA tech support about that. Accounts don't just get lost.

I re did my O/S, and re-installed BF2, only to have my password not work. I asked to have the password sent to me, but the one they sent was the same one I had been trying. I suppose I could ask EA to look into it, but I figure I can start a new character with fresh stats. It was always my favorite part of playing Wizardry when I was younger and apparently no less dumb.

I guess I'll have to link the new characters stats instead of this one.
