Fact: Jets fly faster at higher altitude, this is fairly common knowledge among the aviator community, so i set about trying to gage this difference using the F-35 for testing.

For all tests I used the F-35 in level flight with full afterburners, i took the max speed from the run.

3 meters, 1170 knots

316 meters, 1540 knots

428 meters, 1640 knots
and just for fun,

693 meters, 2490 knots, and still in control.

"OK, so what" you say. Well this knowledge can be applied to your flying strategy, especially on Wake Island or other maps that have J-10s. Most, if any, J-10 pilots won't follow you to 600 meters so rather then try and fly below the radar in your F-35, fly above it! AA sites don't even bother looking that high. This gives the F-35 a huge opportunity for high speed, near vertical bombing runs, which are soo easy to aim. Not to mention that is is super easy to ambush J-10s out of the clouds. Just fly in from above and loose all 6 missiles, if you don't kill him, he'll be to busy dodging them to catch you as you return to safety in the clouds. If he does happen to see you you will be at 600+ meters and flying around 2000 knots, he has no chance of catching you before you make it to the carrier.

Anyhow i decided to put this together after I scored my new best round score (178) in a F-35 on wake using this strategy, Don't believe me, try it.

The engine is bloody huge and thats why it's easy to asplode with missiles, the J10 missiles don't hack, it's because the F35 has a big mofinkin' engine.

You'll find that anything above 400 meters is sufficent ... at least in terms of ground AA ... it can't track above that height

Depending on where the AA is on the map, it's maximum range is 300m

Good work.  I've toyed with it a bit earlier with limited success.  I'll give it more of a shot next time.  One thing is certain... a j10 on the tail of an f35 = automatic death.  Turn if you want, you're dead no matter what you do (so long as the j10 pilot has at least a monkey's brain).

So.... I like the idea of spending limited amts of time in the j10 kill zone when in that f35.  Oddly enough, even when I have a j10 well in my sights and he's only making slight evasive maneuvers, I've seen 6 of my missiles sail by a j10 with nary a scratch on him.

In any case... thx for the info.  +1
