Yesh! At first AF was way off my tip the hat scale. So I tried and tried to actually like it but to no avail. Mainly because I was playing by myself and it was the "first two days" when it came out. All that seemed to buy it the first two days were the Jet bitches and helo whores. Hell I think I was the only infantry out there. Everyone wanted to try out the A-10, tking was immense, luckily I shy away from airfarts. My first day was major Little Bird anal probing my pixel dude. I couldn't even spawn, seems like whomever was in it just came from Karkand. Then once that pesky mesquito left I had a massive A-10 bombardment, so basically couldn't move either in a tank or out unless I got a plane.
My views on AF now is different. I've played all maps since the first day. It got better once teamwork was involved.
My first map and the one I thought was gonna be my fav was the formidable Road Rage. Yeah...alot of work went into this one, but to me, its a straight line. You have A to B, nothing really staggers off like a drunk fella trying to get a date. To me it was great for beginners learning to fly or the pilots that are watching cartoons and flying at the same time, there really isn't any turning you have to do, just like NASCAR to me -- one big oval in aircraft. To redundant, to obvious in my opinion. This map is played well in 32-64 player.
Second Map was Midnight Sun. First thing I was wondering is "where is my muscle car?" I found it only to get tked for it..jeez... Midnight Sun is exactly like FuSHE Pass but at dusk/dawn. It has good sniping and good ground warfare, but I've seen nothing but aircraft rapeage from this map everytime I play it. The tanks cant even survive on it. This map is played extremely well with more than 50 people, anything less you are just flying jets. Dont really like it.
Harvest at first I didn't like; too open. Then I played it more and more and this map is by far the best map out there. It ranks high on infantry battles. Well balanced groundpounding, the aircraft really has no chance in this one. If you are infantry only this Map is your friend. I can't say enough about it. Flags are a little drawn out, but they do that for a reason-- for infantry hiding, you have to look in every brush. This map is a snipers best friend if played more than 50. A tankwhores dream at 32. A pilots nightmare with the AA (if they actually stick together) Even though this map has choppers it plays a role just like anything else and it evens out the battlefield. I've seen a couple choppers own on this map because no one wanted the AA.
The best groundpounding maps now include Harvest, Sharqi, Karkand, Night FLight and Warlord.
If I had to rate the AF maps it would be Harvest, Road Rage and Midnight Sun.
So for you groundpounders lovers that have AF and love Harvest, I give you a brand new server to play on:
Sorry for my friends that like Night Maps...for now..
