I dunno if this has been posted under a different name of a post or something but I need to get it off my chest because it's been egging me on for a while now and decided to put it under Complain since it seemed most like what I'll be doing but has anyone ever had really decent ping in a server but feel like you've met some disadvantage that you SWORE you engaged someone before they could even notice you, or that you opened fire on them first then all of a sudden magically find yourself on the ground with that 15 second death count to appear?

It's happened to me frequently and I've just got around to noticing it when I was in an Iron Gator server. Overall I get around a 50 ping, SOMETIMES 60-65 but usually never higher than that, and the majority of people who come into that server will be around the 100's some at low 200's. What I'm getting at is that at certain points I know I've engaged the enemies so much sooner than they could, and with the ping, they should've been selflessly handicapped as well to have their ping account for that right?

I thought I just had bad anticipation for engaging the enemy till I sat at a flag waiting for it to be neutralized, then capturing it. In that process, as I sat and waited, prone and ready, I die instantly and even had the commander give me a UAV to make sure no one would sneak up on me. I had been under the UAV for a while and I was at the flag all alone so the flag was being neutralized at a very merciless pace. No one was around me, no red dots in the map, not a single UAV blip to signal it... then out of nowhere I die and even hear the gunfire but I've already died by then.

The UAV finally goes off and the guy wasn't behind me, not even next to me. A split second later he shows up and then the rest of the enemy allies spawn in later now that I had sparked the attempt to try capturing that flag.

From then on I noticed a bunch of delay issues, like I'd see someone, KNOW I purposely strafed away from them but find out 1/3rd of my bar is depleted from enemy fire about a second later the sound of gunfire sounded. Again, I constantly checked my ping in the server and it stayed at a constant 50, and then at some other servers, lower than that, some even as low as 12 but the same thing happens.

Is it my computer? My connection? What's going on?

Man I knew this wasn't gonna be as easy as I thought it would be.

a home base like gatehouse or factory on karkand takes longer to cap than any other base
You have to learn the rules of the game and then you have to play better than anyone else.

All I can say, is that I get that too, but only on some servers. Is this always the same server or with all? Try servers close to you. For me it was sometimes the connection, but usually the fact that I was playing on a foreign server that was very far away.

I'm getting horrid lag if I'm playing on foreign servers. Even with a ping at about 30 and running BF on a high end system.
Guess it's just lag spikes due to paket loss or something.

Never have problems on close servers.

I wish I could help you with your issue but I can't.

On another note, your first paragraph is the longest single sentence paragraph I've ever read.  On top of that it was a question.  Very radical, dude!  =P

Seriously, though, I've maybe had it happened to me a few times but not enough for me to wonder what's wrong with my system/connection.

Didn't even realize I made that into a long sentence/paragraph LOL. But yeah, to break it all down, even with good ping, is it still horribly possible to be affected by 1 second-delay lag that could put me on end?

I've seen it, I'm in a hallway at Iron Gator, I SEE A GUY down the hallway, duck away behind some boxes, then a split second later I hear gunfire, take damage but I'm FAR away from his sight I'm sure as I made it but there must've been that delay for me to actually move away and for him to see me dictated through the server's information retrieval... and just screw me over.

Or it could just be me but I've been very observational lately and I've noticed that it's 1- .5 second delay lag that's killing me, and that kind of instinct sucks if it's caused because the server can't keep up with my movement LOL

that is really strange. i get that some times but it is because my ping is higher. i usually ping about 90 -100. which for me is real good considering im from Hawaii. but if your ping is lower and your lagging like that, all i can  think of is your comp cant run bf2 sf real good. what is your system specs? when ive joined some servers and ping 90 and other people are pinging 200, they think i cheat cause to them im shooting and hitting them before i come around a corner. but they are the ones with the delay not me.

Souljah might be clearing it up a bit for me then... could just be my specs, I am running pretty old stuff here and I'm barely just running BF2 on my limit here even with what I have:

Athlon XP +3000 2.16Ghz
1.5GB RAM PC2700
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB

I'm really thinking it's my hardware and I'm constantly trying to optimize, making myself pick up even quicker through graphics and I've gotten it to a point where it actually plays smooth, it just seems that when I get online, this weird delay thing happens even when my ping falls way below 100. It sucks.

lol - I'm running mine on a laptop, 1.83 ghz prcessor, but on the other hand I have 2 gigs of ram... I think I have  a similar graphics card...ATI sux

Uhm,
the other dudes have pings above 150 and 200, it's them who have a delayed connection to the server, so they see you 200 ms later than where you are and boom, you die. it's not your connection, you're just playing on servers where OTHERS have high pings. This is the problem.

Agreed, ATI is slacking down a bit on the performance whereas nVidia is taking up the lead... puh... but anyway, back to topic.

So Swiss, what you're saying is, because the opponents have the HIGHER ping, they have a better chance at killing me than I do killing them when I have better ping and therefore SHOULD outperform them? That's GHEY! That means my performance is being handicapped because I'll have around 50 ms, then some dude with like... 100-150 ms shows up, I KNOW I see him and act before he does, but because of the ping difference, I'm being handicapped?

To put it in example, I'll have 50 ping, my opponent has 100 or so, I see him, duck behind a box, but the data transfer says "WHOA hey wait a minute, time out!" and gives my opponent those spare extra ping counts as a way to hit me? That's not cool at all!

I don't get the "lag" issues that you have.  Only a few times do I get that like I've mentioned earlier.
