Anyone else find themselves sidetracked from time to time to just get that ONE LAST piece of criteria for the ribbons and badges instead of just say letting it happen??

I would like to say that all my rewards just happened.  But I am guilty of waiting the full 3 minutes on a TOW or Mounted MG just to count the 5 kills to get my ribbon... Anyone else find that this piece of the game is an addictive one... ??  I need to somehow tell myself that even though im in 120567 th place... that i at least have my ground defense ribbon!!!

When I had a falling out with my clan (I am no longer a member), I lost my "edge" in the game, wasn't getting my normal points per round or kill ratios, and had a bit of a burn out.

A lot of my awards I got without looking at UBAR all the basic ones except for transport I got, as well as vet knife.

I looked up the ones I was missing, and went out and actually went into a round TRYING to get a certain badge (I believe I had all the ribbons by then.

I got many of them, such as vet engineer, expert explosives, etc. Ones that many people don't have. Made me feel good about the game.

And guess what? I am back into playing it just for the fun of it, medals will be nice when I get them,  but the quest for badges actually helped get me back into this game for the fun of it, nothing more.

I know that was off topic, but I just came to this realization last night, and I think its something anyone with a bit of a burnout should read.

Yes, you have to admit DICE/EA was pretty brilliant on this one.

In BF1942 I lived my entire existance sniping, but here you are "encouraged" to try all the classes to badge/ribbon up, and it truely gives the game a much longer and fuller life, expanding my enjoyment by trying just about every facet of the classes.

Of course, it can also drive you to total distraction when you want a particular reward, but if I just play for one more hour...

Yes, that is what makes this game so addicting, even through the lag and the glitches (I can float like Jesus on water!)... I can't stop once I start on a quest for a badge/ribbon...Sooo addicting...

Makes the game more fun.  Yes, there are ppl that focus only on that and leave the rest of the team hanging, but what can you do?  I enjoy earning them, but i try to help my team with what they need also.

At this point of the game i can't help but think about my medals and admittingly my stats as well.

Although i don't think of myself as a stat padder, i do concern myself with how i rank with other people in the bf2 community.  For quite a while i just chose which kit i was using based on the tactical situtation.  Then one day i had an awesome round and got alot of kills with the medic and started to look further into badges and other such rewards.  The bronze, silver, and gold stars no longer meant enough to keep playing, so i decided to concentrate on becomming a more well rounded player at a higher level.  I NEVER used to use support and engineer, but after using them, i have found situations where the usage of such classes makes me a better player and the team as well.

With that said, and most vet badges in the bag, I'm starting to concentrate on more vehilce play and commander play.  I just started to command and although it is not as fun as running around and being a good grunt, it adds another level of appreciation of gameplay presented and trying to utilize that.  Only problem is some of the hours requirements are just CRAZY.

I agree with previous posts that DICE/EA put a nice feature in to keep the game challanging/addictive.  I think as humans we strive to take pride in what we do, and having a stat tracker helps in that regard.  No longer will us gamers be laughed at for just playing games, but we have prove of our accomplishements.  LoL....ok..this paragraph was just BS.

I think its a fun part of the game, but some people take it too seriously. I tend to go into a game with a loose idea of what awards I would like to try for, but usually get side-tracked and dont get them, or get something else instead.

Nowt wrong with getting sidetracked for the shiny things, it's part and parcel of the game..... It's an acheivement and something I think we all would like to aspire to all badges, all ribbons, all medals.... but then what ... there's going to be some serious withdrawal when everyone's got what they want

I play as engeneer these days, 'cause I need 15 hours with this kit for 2 veteran badges - the combat and the repair ones.

It's what keeps the game interesting...not like badges and ribbons mean a whole hell of a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it keeps the game quasi-fresh by making you change your style of play to go after certain awards.

Let's face it...with one gametype and only 13 maps, it would have gotten really stale really quick if there wasn't something to hold people's interest.  It's fun to set out one night to earn a certain badge or ribbon.

I'm hoping against hope that EA/DICE does something to liven the game up a bit beyond releasing a new BF2 game.

I actually hated sniping until I got my vet badges for everything but engineer, medic and sniper. Medic had like 2 hours, Sniper 4 hours, and engineer 3. So i decided, meh, sniper first, get those damn hours and I freakin' pwn now. I don't select it for the time, I select it because it's hella fun.
