Alt Tabbing out of Game problems

Since installing 1.3 or AF, I have not been able to Alt Tab out of the game, we have a server and are admins and this has become a important funtion while playing in the game, but now when alt tabbing it just freezes the game and it I hit alt tab again, it resumes the game. Is anyone else having this problem, since installing the latest patch or AF??? I think it just started doing that since installing AF but am not sure.
Anyone have any suggestions??

Sorry mate, it works fine for me. I've got 1.3 but not AF so maybe that's causing the problem...?

i can...and i have AF and patch...sounds weird to me...the contrl alt del. thing might work for you...try it.

Right click the BF2 shorcut on DP - Properties - Target - C:\BF2\BF2.exe +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 <<< change that 1 to a 0 and run BF2 [if u have the 2 highes RES reduce it to the 3rd highest]

He means letting bf2 run in windowed mode so you don't need alt+tab

u have the res on 1000x 800x, the highest in VIDOE settings [donno the exact] Change it from thta to the 3rd highest settings [not the 74-60 Hz but the RES ec 1000x 800x numbers]

oh ok, I think I am folowing you. Right now, as before I started having this problem I am running 1024x768, so I run it in a window mode, and I should be good with the 1024x768, cause I can run it a lot higher then that??

You running any leet hax? That may be your problem. Honestly, I can't think of why...I have 1.3, AF, and I play 64 man servers...I can still alt+tab, ctrl+alt+del, alt+esc.

How much RAM do you have? RAM can make a big difference because when you change from BF2 (running in the foreground) to your desktop (BF2 now a background task), your computer will shift BF2 out of RAM and into pagefile (assuming you are part of the 98% who run with pagefile enabled) to free up resources for windows.

Since Armored Fury was around 385Mb, it would only exacerbate the issue due to more material needing to be shifted. Yet another case for upgrading to 2gig

I dont run a server but I do tend to go back to my desktop while ingame sometimes. I always use Esc. to get back to the browser and then Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up task manager which atomatically sends you back to desktop. If I dont use Esc. to go back to the browser first then I dont have a mouse cursor when I Ctrl-Alt-Del back to the desktop.

I read somewhere that BF2 never has fully supported the Alt-Tab function so I never really used it.
Also I dont know if I have tried going back to desktop since or during AF

i find with sli on i can't tab out, it's to do with the way it renders alternate frames
i get exactly the same problem, frame locks, but doesn't go to desktop then tabs back in to make it move again

only fix i've found is turning sli off or using single gpu rendering (it aint that much of a boost with sli tbh anyway :S)

anyway, r ya running SLi?

Yes running SLI with BFG 7900 cards

yea, I just disabled SLi and ran a single card and now I can alt tab out, so if any of you run into this problem and running SLI, then turn off one card...Thanks all for your help and knowledge

Yea, I am running two gig, and I just recently (last week) upgraded my whole system and am now running SLi and a AMD 4800, had no problems before
