Points. Stniop. What do they mean? What purpose do they serve? Do they reflect skill, or simply a basic human instict of wanting to dominate? Do the greatest players get the greatest points? Or do the greatest points go to the most infantile players?
The points system has been around for ages. Since the early days of grand civilizations as Greece and Rome, points have been used. But gone are the golden ages and in are the dark ages of points. Through the internet, one can hide behind the anonymity and do whatever he or she pleases. Let us look deeper into the earning of points in Battlefield 2.
The Point Whore: The Point Whore is an interesting character. He tends to have a one-lane focus of mind, relentlessly doing what it takes to get many points. These folks are often found in the land of Karkand and the island of Wake. In Karkand, they serve as a medical expert, reviving fallen comrades and medically assisting injured fellow soldiers. They receive a mixed multitude of reactions. Some find their actions heroic and wonderful, saving the team from losing a 'ticket' and letting the person have one less death on their statistics. But some view them as vile beasts who show no care for their team but for their points. Reviving them infront of an onslaught of opponents, leaving them to be mutilated and revived, ad nauseum. On Wake, they can be found in aircraft partaking in a so-called 'rape' of certain bases. While no intercourse is involved, the pilots instead constantly bombard the other team with massive firepower and gain high points and kills. These people are almost always berated for their actions, although a few find themselves light-hearted enough to give them accolades on their performance. The Point Whore also tends to form an elitist attitude that only causes his team grief. He will kill his own countrymen for a vehicle or cause his teammates to kill him, and then punishes them until the server automatically banishes them.
The Noob: The Noob is on the receiving end of much grim mirth. The Noob tends to be inexperienced at what he does, leaving his team at great risk for mass casualties. Some of their actions include: detonating Composite-4 explosives on friendly vehicles. Firing grenades at their own feet only to be mutilated by the blast. Throwing ammunition supplies to their foes. Missing their revives and getting killed themselves, and keeping the first aid equipment to himself. Leaving land mines in friendly bases. And firing anti-tank missiles at friendly vehicles. They also tend to drop heavy ordnance from airplanes onto their comrades. The Noob usually is banished by the server administrator, whom we will talk about next.
The Administrator: The Administrator is a quick-witted individual who will not hesitate to turn the tide in his favor. Many argue that the Administrator is a sub-species of the Point Whore, but the Administrator's actions can be radical enough to warrant another section. The administator will banish players who kill them or who perform better than them in order to have the leading edge. Often they will enforce rules on anybody but themselves and other administrators or friends. They tend to proceed with caution though, as a secret society known only as BF2RS has the powers to remove their game server and administrative powers.
The Honest Soldier: The Honest Soldier is perceived as a noob, but is usually a helpful card. He will rotate through a series of classes or vehicles and tends to not have amazing skills, but he is willing to change his playing style to best fit his team. Whether he ends up with many points or few points, he is usually a deciding factor in whether his team wins or loses. Many Honest Soldiers received the fabled "War College Ribbon" before the forsaken 1.3 patch.
The God: The God excels at everything he does. He is considered an elite asset to his team, and considered a major threat to his enemies. He works much like The Honest Soldier in that he will hop around duties and vehicles to do whatever helps his team wins, but the key thing is that he will be extremely good at what he does, no matter what. He tends to receive stinging names as "hacker", "fag", "dickcunt", and "motherfucker", but continues playing. He is often on the receiving end of failed kickvotes, and is oen of the first victims of The Administrator's bans. Some examples of Gods include a snake that lives in bushes and an infant spinach.
These are the types of point getters and how they function. To answer the questions asked:
-They mean what you do in the game
-They serve to rank you up and either show skill or whoredom
-They can reflect great skill OR reflect a bloodthirsty desire for high status
-Some great players get great points, others get low points
"So what" you say? Well, this essay is to provide an insight to the basic species of BF2 player and points. Hopefully it will help veterans and noobs alike, and perhaps give all players an idea of what they are.
Thank you,
Sonic
Damn, think of the points I could've gotten instead of writing this!
