Hi everyone, first post btw. Need suggestions.

Here's the deal, I find many people saying that you can't fly a plane (and to a lesser extent the heli) well unless you use a joystick.

Granted some of you may disagree and thats great and all but I want to use a joystick.

I dusted off my old Sidewinder Precision Pro off and plugged it in, calibrated it. This much I know. Or so I thought.

First off I want to master the helicopter with a joystick but I keep over-correcting myself when I'm trying to manuver. Turning down sensitivity is not helping.

I have Steering controlled by twisting (Z-axis) on the joystick. And banking left and right is the done by moving the stick left and right. Of course the nose *pitch?* of the helicopter is controlled by moving the stick forward and backwards.

I've noticed some strange phenomena, heli always steers to the left *may need to correct the calibration some*

Mostly though I need help on keeping the Heli steady, and bringing her back to a neutral position after evading an AA missile, and such.

Have I configured it wrong or what? Also help on configuring for a plane would be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance everyone.

The turning left thing is a calibration issue.

Is the joystick mounted inside a circle, or a square?

If it's a circle, make sure when you're re-calibrating it you don't hit the top, bottom, left, or right boundaries of the joystick's range of motion.  Basically,  draw a square inscribed in the circle, using the diagonals as the corners.  If that makes any sense.

This gives the joystick better response in the maximum up/down and left/right spots.  I do the same thing with the Z-Axis, and when calibrating the throttle.

I noticed that if you use the entire range of motion when calibrating, you rarely hit the defined maximums in-game.

The joystick will be much more sensitive, which translates to better response in my book.

Awesome, thank you for your prompt responces, I shall do the same to newbs in need of help in the future.

The tutorial is awesome, pictures make a big diff imo.

Was using the planes today, did well in the J-10 but the F-35 is another story, I can evade maybe one missile but a second lock kills. I'm familiar with the complaints people have over this, regardless it will be a long time before I earn any sort of ribbon for airborne vehicles I think.
