yes you need to do it in the shortcut just shearsh the forums and you will find
Right click the BF2 icon and look at the path properties. And as Niekjejeje said, sertch and you shal find...

Change that to
+fullScreen 0
Change that to
+fullScreen 0
create a second shortcut and call it windowed or something so u know the diffrence then right click and go to properties and in the target field u should see some thing like
Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1
change the "1" next to full screen to a "0"

Yeah, but you'll probably notice a slight drop in performance:
Right-click your BF2 shortcut.
In the Target field, find where it says +fullscreen 1.
Change the 1 to a 0, and you're all set.
