Is it the card or something else? I have a RealTek HD Audio Output. Yes I know it's intergrated sound crap but my old computer (from 2003) had better sound than this.

Just get a new one then.  If you have a little bit of cash left get this.

Look for updated drivers.  See if your software has a sound diagnostic that you could run.

Hope you get it fixed.

Integrated sound impacts the rest of the system's performance, in every case I've seen it.  Best go out & get a low-end X-Fi.

Already recommended him something that's pretty much the same, an Audigy 2 ZS, the 75$ one.  It's fixed anyway though.

You should still get something better if you can help it.  The crappy integrated sound gets old after a while, I still have mine.

My advice on soundcards is get a seperate one. Onboard sound cards steal clock cycles (CPU) and some also steal RAM.

So the key is to buy a CPU so fast it laughs at the pitiful power a "built in" sound card and eat... I'd rather put the extra $80 to $100 for a better sound card into buying a better CPU... but then the slowest opterons OC just as far as the most expensive ones.

Even a $20 Sound card, or a modem with a soundcard is better. Just takes the load off the CPU.

Why the hell does a modem have/need a soundcard in the first place?

If something doesn't work right off the bat, your best bet is drivers.

lol, I found a whole bunch of modems that have sound cards in them: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi … mp;Ntk=all

I might buy one just to get rid of this POS integrated sound.  From what i've heard, any sound card you can buy is better than integrated.
