Dunno, I just downloaded this and I'm getting lag spikes from 100-600+ with it on while playing BF2. Never got these lag spikes when I used McAfee or Norton though. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and if they knew a way to fix it, thanks.

- Anyone use Zone Alarm here and play BF2?
Yeah, shut it off. Norton uses an insane amount of ram. It uses so much that to me, the amount it uses is not worth the so called 'protection' it offers. I haven't had a firewall for almost 8 months now and I've actually had better computer performance.
If your experienced enough you don't need a firewall or a/v, and I know how incredibly stupid advice that may be to offer a computer user, but for me, I can manage quite well without them.
Besides, you really don't want your A/V running while your playing, or your firewall. The lag spikes are probably due to fact that ZA is having to monitor all the traffic, and consitering BF2 is hogging all the resources, it may be fighting for every bit of them so it can do it's job.

I used Zone Alarm about a year ago and got rid of it really quickly - Had similar problem to yours while playing CS:S etc : it's total a*se for gaming.
Personal firewalls are all a bit debateble anyway - "snake oil" as some IT people seem them, which is true : most of those alerts that flash up are all a load of b*llocks

You're probably ok with your configs, but some pcs I've had to repair recently due to trojans/worms/virus/spyware/malware... would suggest most don't know about the bad side of the internet

I have Norton system works 2005 and the Internet Worm protection feature just would spam me with pop-ups about BF2 being possibly unsafe and even after I added BF2 to the programs Ok list I got pop-ups so I just turned that feature off. for a firewall I just use the one built into my router and I don't get any lag. I had ZA pro on my old computer but it would have been to much of a hassle to use it on my current rig.
i got ZA and have had no probs at all with it, i got 2 gig ram so maybe thats why,
and norton has got to be the worst computer virus out!!

Dunno what you guys are talking about ram, I have 4.0GBs of Corsair XMS DDR 400, ;p. I just got rid of ZA and now using F-Secure Internet Security 2006 and I'm not having any problems at them moment. About the Norton not being good, that's a lie. Norton is probably one of the best Anti-Virus programs out, I think it was ranked fourth out of all the programs if I'm not mistaken.
No problems with Zone Alarm and AVG anti virus running in the background.
IM programs on the other hand....

I have Norton and usually leave the firewall on - glad I do sometimes I get a Trojan alert while playing.
):-(
Not often I agree with someone about AV software, but you're dead right about Norton, way too resource hungry and a crap detectorthe_heart_attack wrote:
