maybe its just a temporary thing and we can wait for tiscali to sort there fucking selves out...
I will describe the process completly and fully as to what happened to my BF2:
Note: I have not installed a patch or modified BF2 in anyway, it was workinf fine yesterday
I launch BF2
I click log in
I sit there for 10 mins
Nothing happens
I ctl+alt+del the program (it says it is still responding
I click end task
I try again,
I Launch BF2
I click log in
I go out to the shops for 2 hours
I come home
BF2 has not changed "connecting to account server"
I end the program
3rd attempt:
I use Xifre to launch game (i entered username/password correctly)
Black screen for a bit (as expected)
BF2 log-in screen appears with the error message "Server refused the connection"
I post error on the forums
I try all of the fixes i could find with the search button and all posted in this topic
I still can't log in
I completely uninstall BF2
I install BF2
I try to retrieve profile
BF2 says "connecting to account server"
BF2 stays the same forever, until i end task or hit the reset button
I give up and cry in a small corner
Some one talks to me on Xfire

Theory is proved true by other users in this topic

Just tried to log in again and still no joy, had to reboot. Anyone else fairing any better??

just got off the phone with Tiscali, they said its not a problem on there end, but will refresh the account anyway, 10 mins later i can login WOOT but haven't got time to play as i have to go out lol , but at least its working now

Apparently my ISP's connection to the BF2 servers is broken.
I am on tiscali (London, UK)
If anyone else is on this ISP they will not be able to play BF2 until the problem is fixed
