As has already been said, to marketting and production costs for software must be huge, what with overheads, pay-roll, marketting, packaging, development, production, etc... the list goes on. Yeah, 27% profit is "well done". I dare say it's nothing compared to a lot of companies.

Oh, and BTW, what's the NEO glitch on Warlord? Hadn't heard of that one. DOn't get me wrong, I DO NOT want details, just a vague description. I DO NOT advocate cheating...

Well maybe 50 million (if correct) is what they earn BRUTO (hope it's called the same in english). You are only giving half the information here. They probably need to give half of it to taxes, then they need to pay programmers, advertising, shipment, maintenance, debugging (hehe),
Yeah probably in the end they make some profit... but that's what every company wants, they need some funds for the next game, and they probably have to pay the banks back where they rent some money.

Have you any idea what winblows earns every year and it has thousands times more bugs than bf2? (and I never heard of a decent windows customer service, every new windows version is full of bugs and every update introduces his own bugs...)

Therefor I voted no, I don't think they make too much money, but I do hope they will find a solution to the glitches.

You claim $8 slot, with an average of 24 players that goes to EA... OK well 8*24 = $192

I voted no, nice try on your argument, but it makes no sense, and is totally wrong. Unless I'm missing something here, and you have to pay EA, ontop of paying your server provider...... which makes absoloutley no sense.
My clan is getting there's for $8 a slot, but.. the server cost only accounts for $6,000,000 out of the total $128,000,000.  So I don't see what the big deal is, unless you're going to prove wikipedia wrong in that EA sold 2,090,000 copies of vanilla BF2 as of march, thats the main figure in here, about 4/5 of their total profit.  And changing it to your LOWEST figure only cuts off about 3.12 million - 8/3.5=about 2.857 and a quarter.
So, oh picky one, if EVERYONE rents from AOWC, (assuming that they really do rend for 3.50 a slot) then we're giving out almost 3 million anyway. So, the total figure would go from 128 mill to 125 mill.  That made a BIG difference... not. 

My point (in this post, not the previous one) is that we should be able to have our own servers that we host.  Not buy them for some one else's corporate benefit.

There's a certian building on warlord (i won't tell you which one) that you can grapple on top and then fire through an invisible plate of glass.  Long story short, you can shoot out, they can't shoot in.  Just like the hotel glitch, except you're in plain sight.

Every thing is a reasonably price. Its not there fault everyone wants to get servers, if people didnt want them they could just not buy servers. A tenner for a booster pack is reasonable as 2episode2 games are about that price and thats more or less what a booster pack is. Like I say all they do is set the price its up to the people if they want to buy it.

Everyone company exists to make money. No one forced you to buy any of this stuff. If you don't like that they made money from all their work, don't buy anything else from them. No big deal. People are so whiney about how they're getting screwed.

The short answer is: If you don't like it when companies make lot's of money, move to China and join the communists.

i feel what your saying on this topic, but i already knew they were making a metric fuckton of currency. The question is how do we gamers take back the power? They DO have something we want and we will still pay for it, even in this state. So how as gamers do we hold mega-game companies to a decent level of qc. If we could figure out how to leverage our buying power, maybe we would get a better product.

first off,I myself and many enjoy the hell out of this game.yes there have been times of frustration,but what in life has not caused frustration now and then.
and so far,on my 2nd account and playing since last oct.(recreational play,I do work so I may get to play an hr or two a day)and my brain seems to be funtioning quite well.and none of my pockets have holes in them.
and I never have nor believe you can actually tell if someone or something is evil,unless your face to face with it.and I personally dont believe anyone at ea/dice are evil and willing to bet they dont spend weeks at the bahama's.rather there probably like most 9 to 5 folks that may even stay beyond that making sure the folks below them are getting the job done.

Ok i see your point but dude if EA was your company you would want as much money as possible. I know for a fact if i owned a big gaming company i would want to do as least as i can but make as much as i can. Then again you have not really done all the maths with this and i cant be assed to go through all the output EA probs has to do and how much is DICE share in all of this since they basically programmed the game EA just published it for them.

I recently purchased Ghost Recon: AW and they just release 8 new maps, 6 multiplayer and 2 singleplayer.  Plus the game dosent have crash issues, accuracy is good, and the players online arent a bunch of self righteous kids whos trying to whip out their e-cock.

Oh yeah and the patch with new maps and shit...all for free.

Let me just add an number to put this somewhat in perspective.  EA's 2006 fiscal year income last fiscal year http://finance.yahoo.com/q/is?s=ERTS&annual (which start on April 1st 2005 - March 31st 2006) was 2.951 billion dollars.  If the initial calculations are correct on 0.104 billion from BF2, that's just over 3% of EA's total revenue.   And although 3% is a significant percentage even to a company like EA, it's certainly not enough for the to spend any extra money to make their software better if they can't increase the earning from BF2 significantly.  Of course the argument can be made that EA would want to keep their BF2 customers happy to create a large build-in customer base from BF2142.

The game in it self is great, we all know this. So IMHO it is totally justified that EA and especially Dice get a decent return for it.

I'd just like to reiterate that the $123 million amount is a gross figure.  This doesn't account for R&D, marketting, media, distribution, etc, etc, etc.  I disagree that it is too much, but it certainly seems like a lot when put like that.  Evidence that statistics can be 100% correct, yet spun.  I don't mean to accuse you of spinning the information intentionally mind you.  And ultimately, this is a capitalist society.  As for them not doing anything?  Well, we ARE on patch 1.3, which is I believe the 7th version or so (1.02, 1.03, 1.2, 1.21, 1.22, 1.3).  Now, the effectiveness of these patches is certainly up for debate, as is whether or not they were a step forward or backward.  However, they serve as at least a token effort and represent further investment of time and resources.

EA doesn't fail in their attempt to please everyone, EA fails in it's attempt to please anyone.  Only naive children who haven't played a truly remarkable game consider BF2 to be an acceptable game.

Agree but thats just reality, the game is as close to real as youre prolly gonna get.  And I am sure they could put a ranking system in place if they so chose, but its just not their cup of tea.

i agree....its like any corporation.  They are out there to make money and that is what they are doing.  Corporations search a demographic, research and find a niche in the market and take advantage. That is where the money is, and thats exactly what EA did.  There has never been a game quite like BF2 with the rankings and awards/unlocks....they found what the market and industry was lacking and took action.  You could almost make the same argument about professional athletes....are they worth the millions?  But when you really think about it....think about all the money a name like Alex Rodriguez or a Lebran James brings into the economy....EA is in a sense doing the same thing.  Just something to think about.
