Hey there,

I have a question for you all, I run bf2 at low graphics setting and it runs smooth (with med sound), when I turn the graphics setting to medium however, it takes like 1/4th of the game before it stops lagging, loading times are also slow then, now they are fast. My pc specs are below. (most important)

I am thinking of buying 512 RAM, but will it stop lagging then? Or is it my vid card? If it is I want to buy a GeForce 6600 GT, or is the GeForce 6800 better? I don't want to spend more than about 200 Euro (about 200-240 dollars or something like that) it must be 256 mb.

3.0 GhZ
512 RAM
128 mb ati x300SE
PCIe
ask for more specs because this is what is neccesary I think

any help will be much appreciated

are you rinning PCIe? Maybe its the Vidcard, if it is, I suggest getting the 6600GT 256MB < impt.

nVidia came out with this card just a short while ago, because they didn't want it to interfere with the 6800 sales. Because two 6600GT 256MBs in SLI would kick the 6800's ass. ALthough I'm not sure how much the 6600 256MB retails in europe tho.

I'm looking at your specs, and the vidcard area is the only one that I see that coulc be causing problems. I suggest however removing any programs running in the background. another 512MB wouldnt hurt either.

my PC specs:

Athlon 2500XP (yes i know, old) clocked to 2800XP 2.2GHz
Corsair 1024 MB
ATI Radeon x800 256MB XL

Oh, and make sure you have the latest drivers for both your graphics card and mainboard, and windows(if you're running win)

if i were you i would get more ram so you have 2 gigs, and a better video card. the ram will help with the lag cuz bf2 uses so much of it at a time.

i have 2 1gig corsair pro
and a X850 XT video card

Yeah thats the problem, I can only buy 512 RAM because I don't exactly have the money for that all, I'm only 15 so I have to get a job soon or something, after that I'll buy a vid card then an other 1 1/2 gig ram(i use 2x 256 now and have 4 sockets), ill have 4 x 512 then

What video card is better? The 6600GT or the 6800? They are both the same price here (209) For as far as I can tell the 6600GT is better comparing

The 6800: http://www.alternate.nl/html/shop/produ … p;#tecData

The 6600GT: http://www.alternate.nl/html/shop/produ … p;#tecData

While I look at the site I see a 1 gig Kingston set for only 90 Euro, I'ma buy that one then first

thanks for all your replys

I got 1.5G ram and it runs smooth and low settings and medium textures on a very low video card ( FX5600 ).
I got about the same PC, P4 3G, FX5600 128, you see the video card is lower but it runs smooth from the start and usually I'm between the first guys to drop in the game ( about the first five, sometimes even the first ).

Ram ram ram ram ram ram ram ram..... get more ram. Get your ram here, ram here, get your ram here

I've upgraded from 1gig to 2 gig Ram, the game is now perfect... Perfect probably overstated, but that's just how I feel...... Vid smooth, no lags, no connection errors, I'm usually one of the first into a newly loaded map, usually the first to a CP, usually the first to die ... all because of more RAM

My CPU 2.0 AMD
2Gig Ram
128Mb nvidia 6600GT

pssst. I bought 2 gig of ram for £150, that's pretty damn cheap in the UK

So does that answer your question? ... work out which is best for you. A new vid card that probably wouldn't make that much of a difference or extra ram that would probably make this game glide... cost per performance, that's the key

Yeah thanks all, I'm going to buy that 1 gig set for 90 Euro when I have the money, that would make it to 1 1/2 gigs of RAM, then ill go with the 6600GT, that is the best I think.

Thanks all
