Pretty simple idea. I just think a laser guided missile like the ones on bombers would work better. It's probably never gonna happen but i can dream can't i

Things it would do that i think would be better for the game:

Having a pilot and gunner will always be better then going solo. Basically, newbs suck with tv missiles and pilots get frustrated so they either shoot them in the face or use boundry to get rid of them so they can fly and tv alone. If the opposing team has a good TV user you pretty much have to do this if you plan to live. A newb TV user vs an experienced user will result in a very dead noob and an even more frustrated pilot.

The laser guided missile is easier to use against armor. It would also be really difficult to solo laser guide because of the way choppers spin out of control.

Heli vs heli, you'll still be able to make a hit with the laser guided but it will be easier to counter if the pilot pulls off evasive maneuvers (rolls ect). So in this case fancy piloting actually pays off for once, a generally good thing imo.

Most matches i've had it just feels like i'm hunting the other enemy chopper to TV him before he TV's me instead of doing what i think choppers should be, taking out armor and supporting infantry.

Be kind

nope , did you thought about choper vs choper ?
Mi28 will pwn all with a gun ...
No shooting through fog ...
Laser guided is rather slow weapon , complianing to TV guided . Against MAA you'd have no chances   because of loooooong lock time .

And lots of n00bs will begin thinking they are awesome gunners ..

Well, i pretty much suck with the TV missiles, which is why I rarely use helis. Anyone who can hit targets at least 50% of the time with them is a darn good gunner in my books. For my own benefit, and other "noob gunners" benefit, then yes, LGM's would be nice. But it takes away yet another skillful aspect of the game.
Not everybody can be the best at everything, its better to leave ground pounding to those who are good at it and the flying and gunning to those who enjoy it and, most importantly, are good at it.

We dont need to make the helis skilless. I practiced a lot with the TV's and am finally good at them, I don't want every noob and smurf in BF2 getting in helos now because the missiles would be a point-and-click affair.

Of course an inexperienced player will lose to an experienced player. That's why its called experience. Great gunners weren't born that way... sure some people just may have more natural skill than others, but in the end it takes practice to learn how to master it. If you master the TV missile, you're one of the most feared players on the Battlefield.

You outline the problem perfectly. This whole thing about mastering the tv missile making you a god, thats the whole thing. The piloting skills should determine how effective the chopper is on the battlefield not the use of 1 of the 3 weapons on board.

You barely have to know how to fly to be effective with a chopper, just master the TV missile and boom, you're suddenly a good chopper pilot? Thats pants.

What are the top jet pilots good at....flying like it should be.

What are the top heli pilots good at....using the TV missile

Two words. Unbalanced. The AA wouldnt stand a chance and all the stupid little noobs would go whine to DICE and then DICE would make the damage on those rockets close to the damage of a M4.

Erm, AA would have it easier. Right now you can TV AA out of it's locking range and they can't do shit. They are other ways of dealing with AA anyway...

Try OPK & USI for LMGs on helos. Have fun doing it there, but please not in vanilla BF2. The LMG are to easy to use, you can make a lot of easy kills without even having Lock-On.

It's for the gunner not the pilot. Also, it doesn't have to be able to lock on. Guiding by hand would be pretty hard and require the pilot to stay still leaving the chopper a pretty easy target.

Give the heli pilots laser guided rockets and leave the gunner the tv guided.  You would need to be a real good pilot not to get blown out of the sky while waiting for the laser lock!!

But as stated, people would whine!   Look at what they did to the blackhawk's miniguns!!!!  They are virutally useless now against infantry unless they are standing next to the chopper.
