I have reached 20 kills  IAR and over by using claymores.  That is all I use and I always check to make sure I get the kill with a Claymore but I never seem to get it.  I'm wondering if you need to use a variety of explosives to get the badge?

No, you do not need to use a variety of explosives ... you can get the badge just with claymores.

There are two opinions as to why you have yet to get this:

(1)  Many report that it might take 1-3 more kills via explosives before the award is triggered.   In other words, they feel that the software that awards this badge is a little buggy.

(2)  However, I think most agree that the main reason that people do not get this award is that the kills must show "you [Claymore] noob" and the kill must happen while you are alive.  In other words, a claymore kill while you are dead and waiting to respawn does not count toward the badge.

I usually have to get 1 to 2 more kills or points to get an award than is needed for some reason. For Expert Ground Defense I had 20 kills IAR, but it didn't give me the award; I had to go for it again. For Veteran Sniper I again had to take a second go. You also have to be careful that your Claymore kills someone within a certain short amount of time after your death; if it kills them after a certain short amount of time it will say...

InviSniper [killed] victim

... instead of...

InviSniper [Claymore] victim

This amount of time is unknown at the moment, but it's around 30 or 40 seconds. But 20 or even 30 kills IAR with explosives is easy if you know how to get it. Using the strategy below I've gotten over 55 kills IAR with Claymores.

My advice is to use the enviornment to your advantage. If you see crates lay a Claymore around the side of them so they don't see it until it's too late; people won't run towards something they see. The best map without a doubt is Warlord in the Special Forces expansion. Be SAS and go cap the 3rd Floor of the Palace at the begining of the round, but lay some Claymores around some corners so if someone decides to run in and try to save the cap, Boom! If you're lucky you'll get some nice Palace battles going on in which you can get 10-12 kills per battle. One side will eventually take the other over, but don't fret. The other side will always come back and take a flag back. This is how I got my Veteran and Expert.

Yes, I wasn't in the Palace, but soon my young Padawan you will learn the ways of the Clays and you too will truely be an Explosives Expert.

a tip to how i got mine just the other week, a friend and me were at warlord at the tv plaza and i was sniper and he was support. me and him held off the entire enemy team by ourselves simply with claymores and him resupplying me. then we just shot anyone else that made it through. i got about 25 kills with claymore before they eventually overran us and then i did it at the palace, it took about 34 or 35 kills with a claymore before it finally triggered litterally seconds before the round ended. warlord is a good one for it i think because 4 of the flags HAVE to be taken with infantry.
