Howdy Guys. Have only had BF2 for about three months now but I'm totally hooked!  Got to thinking the other day about the use of the new vehicle drops in the infantry level "Strike at Karkand". I had been playing around at different points in the map and have found a great new defensive strategy for the HOTEL FLAG POINT. Using this information (which I'm not sure I should be releasing quite so freely as I'm sure there are a few clans out there who might have liked to practice this a bit on their own before it became widely known.)
TOO BAD!!! I blew that by showing a few guys on my team the spots on the internode servers on Tuesday night so I thought a bit of a general release might be good before some of the clans do get wind of this and get a bit of practice in at getting their SQUAD LEADERS to these DEFENSIVE STRONGPOINTS as soon as possible at the start of a round. . TOO BAD!!!! I am all for freely sharing stategies and tactics. If you can use them, good for you. Here goes. Several of the buildings surrounding the HOTEL FLAG POINT have multiple levels that currently are unable to be accessed (by most players). There are THREE new defensive sections to practice getting into. Plus a bonus. The first is the best forward defensive position. Looking from the HOTEL FLAG POINT directly toward the USMC base you see a first floor level that is accessable from the alleyway by a ladder. Go to this roof (or better to wait and see what comes next). If you are Commander then fine you can try this out at your leisure and your teammates will be amazed at the new possibilities for solid defence. If you are not commander then it may take some convincing for you to get him\her (must be polictically correct) to drop a vehicle resupply where you are requesting. Keep at it and practice the drops, IT IS worth the effort.
Position #!
HERE'S THE CATCH! You will need to have the Commander drop a vehicle resupply directly onto this small roof space. Get in and back the car up to the wall AWAY from the HOTEL FLAG POINT and get out. The use the vehicle to jump up to the higher rooftop level. NO WAY!!! You now have easy acces to all the rooftops in the forward central defensive area. You can stay on this new higher rooftop or jump accross to the building on your left and make your way forward along the roof. This vantage point gives better fields of fire on the incoming lanes and the surrounding hills in front of the Flag point. Your grenades will go further too.
Position #2
Foward Left Defensive Position
There is a building about level with the HOTEL FLAG POINT in the direction of the water that is accessable from a ladder on the right hand side of the map. Usually used by the USMC team to spray fire down the alleyway in front of the HOTEL FLAG POINT. This rooftop currently only has one level. Put a car up on the roof and use it to jump up to the higher more forward rooftop. You now have a better field of fire on the hill to the left and can look all the way to the forward left USMC spawnpoint. Your grenades will go a lot further toward the enemy from these elevated positions.
IMPORTANT NOTE : If you do not want enemy soldiers following into these great new places and filling you full of holes then simply blow up the jeep you have used for steps with a grenade and no-one will be able to get up to the higher levels without another vehicle drop (which should make it pretty obvious you are about to get shot). A few land mines on the roof would deal with this (Won't you look funny laying mines on the roof?).
Position #3
Forward Right Defensive Position
There is a building on the opposite road of the the HOTEL FLAG POINT about 10-15 meters towards the USMC base which has a wide low-hanging awning. If you use an APC or a TANK (you can use a jeep but it is nowhere near as easy) as a stepping stone you can get up onto this awning and jump up onto the roof which also has a higher vantage point. This position is more exposed to enemy fire from the hills on the right so mayber this one is best used by the USMC team to secure the position once the fighting has moved further into the city.
All three of these positions are focused on the HOTEL FLAG POINT.  A fourth (but by no means final) position is a central highpoint which I am sure is destined to become a complete pain for the attacking USMC team.
This is the Central Defensive Strongpoint
This is the building directly behind the building housing the HOTEL FLAG POINT when looking from the USMC base. But this building has no entances or stairs you say...you would be right. The building next to it does though. You access the Strongpoint from the two storey building on the corner of the SQUARE. This is the one with the stairs on the SQUARE side of the building which lead to the first floor then up onto the roof. Here's the fun part. I found it to be very hard to get a vehicle drop to land on this roof (it always seems to want to fall off the side. So instead of using the jeep as a ladder, you use a SUPPLY CRATE. (It is far easier to do this as commander on the spot rather than as a request from a distance.) From the exit to the stairwell on the roof you can see a slightly higher building directly in front of you. (You can try to jump onto the square railing blocks and jump from there but I only made it very rarely. ) The best thing to do is to drop a supply crate as close to the railing as you can (you WILL have to adjust for wind speed and direction as the drops will 'float' a bit). Once you have the supply crate drops exactly where you want them against the North\South facing rail on the side of the roof away from the water you can jump up onto the supply crate and from there across to the roof. BONANZA!!! This rooftop has the best coverage of the HOTEL FLAG POINT  you could want (a two year old could lob a grenade in from here).  In the other direction you have an almost unobstructed view of the SQUARE FLAG POINT. Look to the hills and you can cover the appraoches from the SUBURBS and on the water side there isn't really much to do at all, execpt to defend yourselves against all the irate enemies on their way up to you. Similar to the jeeps, once you blow up the supply crate, no-one can follow you to the higher elevation.
All of these new positions would have been accessable previously by using the supply crates so I am surprised the rooftops have not always been a more determined battleground. As far as I can see this does not represent any breach of the game rules. Hoping for a bit of confirmation from the SERVER ADMIN crew though so that I don't feel quite as bad using their terrific new idea for a vehicle drop as a set of steps instead.
Have fun with it guys. You can join my squad anytime.

or when dropping the vehicle on the roof use it to glitch your way into the hotel itself (but i strongly condone gliching in the game - please dont do it)
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Haha, I really thought your first position would be the hotel glitch. The only problem is that you can't ask for a vehicle there anymore cause people will abuse it to go into the hotel, or people will yell at you for cheating before you even got in. So you better put a supply box there!

And nice description, I knew them all, but to be honest, I rarely use them. But because it would help some people and you did a nice effort +1
