Yes, it rhymes. But that's not why I titled it this way.... it's more about making the most of a sniper kit.
I know there has been much debate on the usefulness of a sniper. Some think they're an annoyance. Others take great pride in making a head shot from 200 yards. For those that love the thrill of the long range kill, I EMPLORE you to make the most of your kit. Other kits have mines, med kits, or lame ass smoke grenades. You, my sniper friend, have a claymore. Two of them, in fact. And if you end up dying before placing two of those bad boys... shame on you.
I have just over 2000 kills on a little over 100 hrs of sniper time. Much of that time was spent flying trying to get time for the expert sniper badge.... so I could have had more. And then there was the time earlier this week where I was going for my 20 kills in a round for veteran explosives badge and I went claymore crazy at Karkand which kind of made up for some of that 'lost time'.
But for those that doubt the value of the sniper, consider the tremendous number of 'defended control point's that can be directly attributed to a claymore. I cannot tell you how many times I will spawn at an otherwise calm base, place a claymore and hoof it for a few minutes only to get a surprise kill and 'defended cp' point. You're welcome team. Sometimes it's a squad that didn't all die and the cp falls anyway.... most of the time it was a lone gunner that now has to start his trek all over again.
So, I consider it my absolute duty to place those claymores at some point during my sniper life. Where to use them? Here is a list of good choices:
1. Obviously, your own control points are a good idea. Preferably somewhat hidden so incoming enemy don't spot it until it's too late. 2 pts for kill + 1 for defending control point. Maybe more than one kill?... all the better. Place at the flag or you can place at likely entry points to the flag. Either way, it's all good.
2. Behind you or at various blind spots when sniping. Let's face it.... you're focused on the scope.... not looking around for someone sneaking up behind you. Protect the 6. I especially like placing a claymore toward the east alleyway when playing MEC at Karkand and sniping toward the main US spawn point as enemy comes down the hill.
3. On offense. If you're rushing into a heavily populated enemy base, throw down the claymore. This works especially well at known spawn points. (Yes... I'll take my lashing now for advocating spawn raping). But nothing frustrates me more to spawn into a claymore... so I know it's effective.
4. You spawn only to find a squad capping your flag. Sacrifice yourself. Throw down the claymore and then get mowed down. I just did this last night and got 3 kills from one claymore after I was mowed down by a DAO-12. In close quarter combat, you're going to be toast anyhow. If you don't die right away, perhaps you can get off a few grenades or pistol shots.... but the sniper usually loses these battles. At least until your claymore does the talking.
5. Being chased around a building? Get behind a wall and turn around to place a claymore while enemy doesn't see you. Then keep on running away from enemy. The enemy will likely just run into your claymore and you get to carry on with your sniping ways.
I'll admit I'm not the best sniper out there. I have a @50% hit ratio and < 1 k/d ratio when carrying the sniper rifle. But if you add in my claymore kills, I'm in respectable territory. And, frankly, if you're having a bad round.... it's hard to go wrong by being aggressive with claymores. The claymores stick around for a period of perhaps a minute or 2 after your death.... and that means more points for you.
Of course, if you're on a server with FF "on" for claymores... this is trouble. It's very difficult to find points where only the enemy will travel and keep yourself from racking up team kills. Luckily, most servers I've played have FF "off." But even WITH FF off, you'll end up with a few as occasionally a teammate will be in the firezone when the enemy happens upon your claymore. Poop happens. They'll get over it.
Also note that you can only place 2 claymores at a time. If you pick up more ammo, you can place more claymores... but the game will erase the claymores you placed in chronological order (1st placed is 1st erased). But if you know one of your claymores already got a kill... place another one by all means!
That's all for now. Have fun with your claymores. They're your sniping duty to place them before you die.
