I am asking for help regarding my bf2. I just installed Battlefield 2 and then I patched it, but it didn't patch. It gave me the error message saying that patching failed and whatnot. When I finally did get it to patch I couldn't play it then. I'd play the disc then the screen would give me the Battlefield 2 picture with the tank and Karkand what ever. Then the screen would go black and then it would crash back to the desktop.

If Anyone has a suggestion do share.

Close background tasks first
try again
if fail
adjust your hardware acceleration for your sound card.
Start>run>Tyoe Dxdiag
go to "sound 1"(should show your sound card as the device)
adjust the hardware sound acceleration. see if that fixes it.

if fail restore previous settings by working in reverse and try to reinstall the game again.

Question

Why does the game crash after a full black screen?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Answer

Crashing after a black screen can be caused by a few different things, including (but not limited to) an incompatible video card, older drivers for a compatible video card or sound card, or a corrupted version of Direct X. There are several steps we can take to try and resolve this issue.

    * First ensure that all of the games minimum requirements are met.
o The minimum system requirements can be found on the bottom of the game packaging.  You can
also search our Technical Support database for these requirements.

    * Also, be sure you have the latest drivers available for your video and sound card.
o Click here for instructions on updating drivers.

    * Make sure any unnecessary background tasks are terminated.  These tasks could interfere with the
       running of the game.
o Click here for instructions on ending your background tasks.

    * During installation, on occasion some files that contain graphics for the background, maps, players etc.
may not be installed, or copied to the hard drive from the CD rom correctly.  You might need to completely
uninstall the game try reinstalling it.

Nice tip there bro also try this

Problem - Crash to Desktop on starting Battlefield 2
Cause - Several Possible Causes
Fix - There is no fix known to work for everyone, merely a list of possible things to try to resolve the issue;

1. Rename the Movies folder in your Battlefield 2\mods\bf2 folder to Movies2, to skip the start up Movies which can be the cause of the Problem.

2. Move your Battlefield 2 folder in My documents and put it on your desktop. When loading BF2 Again it should force it to create a new one using default settings.

3. Check you have no software forcing a set refresh rate, if you do disable it.

4. If on a AGP card, try running at 4x speed instead of 8x speed. I believe ATI users can change this in there ATI control panel, or use the ATI panel in display settings. You can access display settings by right clicking on your desktop, then clicking properties.
For Nvidia users it may be necessary to set it in the bios.
By doing this the loss of FPS is very small, but you can significantly improve the systems stability

5. Check on your graphic card control panel that everything is set to application controlled to see if it helps.

6. Re-Install the latest version of Directx from the Microsoft Website http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx

Hey thanks guys it turned out it was a program I installed for my sound card that was screwing everything up. But now I can play bf2. However; When I try to join a server I get to fifty-nine fifty-eight and sixty percent and then the game crashes again.
