The reason I ask this is because in the US tomorrow (July 4th) is a national holiday and many people are lucky enough to have a 4 day weekend. But not me

It's not a holiday here, but then I'm on holiday Thursday and Friday. Going to see Chili Peppers Thursday night so day to get ready and day to recover.

yeah, but im not really working, just shoveling around some paperwork, I'd rather have the 5th off to recover to be honest, I would have put in for it but i only just passed my 90 day mark

I work in a video store. As far as the store is concerned, there are no holidays other than xmas and thanksgiving. So I'm working today (3rd). But I'm salary, and I get holidays off. So some other schmuck is working tomorrow.
Yes...and it sux because I work in the auto parts business...and 90% of our accounts will be closed. It'll will be a very long day...
No public holidays until August here in the Republic of Ireland. I am taking thursday, friday and next monday off however to go to the 'Running of the Bulls' festival in Pamplona!!!

nothing, just most places don't see the point in being off for a weekend, working one day, then being off again, no work gets done on the monday in a situation like this, so if you have a bunch of hourly employees your better off telling them not to clock in
