Hey guys, I'm back after being down for 3 days *glad you all missed me:P*.
I would like to ask a question for a friend of mine.
He buyed BF2 with the hopes to play online.
He did as I told him, Install the game, download patch 1.03 and start playing.

But no..

Whenever he starts up BF2 he does see the BF2 Logo reall quick, the screen turns black and he gets booted back to windows. I came over, re-installed BF2 but still no luck.

I checked background applications, I checked firewall, I checked minimum reqs.

I dont know what to do. If anybody feels like helping, dont hold back .

Much appreciated,

Rico.

You need to install 1.02 after a fresh install then patch to 1.03.

Moved to BF2 Help.

Sounds like a video issue to me and that the graphics card is failing to render the game.  I used to get that exact problem when I attempted to play the game on a geforce fx5600, which is below the minimum requirements.  I got around it by installing a newer version of the display drivers from nvidia's website.  Now I have my new 6600gt and I'm happy

My initial questions for your friend would be
1) What is the video card and is it supported?
2) Has he updated his drivers?
3) What version of directx is he running?

I don't think the patches would be an issue as the problem is just starting the game initially rather than trying to join a game, but there's always a chance the install could be corrupted.

Also, make sure the video card is working properly.  You can download utilities that will run some limited checks on your hardware to determine if there's any problems with it.  One that I have used in the past (and told me my harddrive was dying about 2 weeks before it crashed permanently) is called BurninTest and can be found on download.com.

Actually, that has never been an issue with me.  I bought the game after the 1.03 patch was out and went from intial cd version directly to 1.03 and did the same after my hard drive crashed about 2 weeks ago.  I've never had a problem with it.

See if he has any Norton products installed. Before I uninstalled Norton Antivirus for Mcaffee I had a similar issue with the internet worm protection portion of NAV. Just a suggestion. Aslo you can install 1.03 on a fresh install...works fine.

I had that problem with my Radeon X800 after putting the 1.03 patch on.  I uninstalled everything and reinstalled BF2 and all the patches.  Still a no go.  I had to upgrade my video card drivers to the latest version at the time and it worked fine after that.
