Who else uses the APC F2 (any position other than driver seat) to cap flags? Sure does keep the flyboys away. And a great way to get enemies thinking that they are a few feet away from a "free" armor.

Is this actually an exploit/bug, or a viable tactic?

EDIT: What happens is that you don't appear as a target to aircraft. You're name also doesn't show up to the enemy. Same as hiding "inside" the hummer, but no one can jack your APC.

He's saying that, on a planes bombing HUD, an APC where the driver position isn't occupied doesn't show up as a valid bomb target. So pressing F2 to switch to passenger when capping flags helps you alot in terms of not getting bombed.

Yeah it's like the bullshit lock breaking when in a 2 seated airplane/Attack chopper

I see five problems with this.

1) Your APC is now free for teammates to take off in.
2) Any smart pilot would bomb the flag anyhow when it turns Neutral.
3) You leave yourself open to C4 attacks.
4) You no longer have a chance to shoot enemies that are in the way of capping the flag.
5) The little piddly side-mounted weapon isn't going to kill an enemy tank/APC.

That's five things wrong, and I wasn't even trying. So basically, bad idea.

- true. But I only use this tactic when capping "quiet" areas, going solo.

- Not last night. I had a few J10 and one attack copter flyby's, even though the flag was gray. When there are plenty of HUD targets, most pilots would probably prefer bombing a sure thing.

- Not the first who spawns, since they can't see the red nametag. Afterwards, it takes 15 seconds to respawn, giving you just enough time to neutralize the flag.

4) You no longer have a chance to shoot enemies that are in the way of capping the flag.
- the gunports work nicely for the initial kills.

5) The little piddly side-mounted weapon isn't going to kill an enemy tank/APC.
- no nametag, they are less likely to fire, nstead focusing on some prone or hidden capper. While they have their backs turned or turret facing another way, you can get in enough damage first to survive the encounter.

That's five things wrong, and I wasn't even trying. So basically, bad idea.

But like I said, would this be considered an exploit? Against the ROE? On maps like Oman, Dalian, and Daging, you need some advantage against the flyboys.

There's no reason why it would be considered an exploit. Personally if I'm in that situation and I'm trying to cap a flag behind the front line where it's not likely that enemies will be spawning, I'll park the vehicle towards the middle of the control point as a decoy for planes while I go hide behind a building or something. Of course it doesn't show up as a target for the planes but it usually draws the fire away from me.

I don't see it being a problem. It's no different to sitting in the F2/F3 gun spot in a FAV or Humvee is it?
Why not add in the F10 and F11 views to maximise your view as well?

Then they're idiots. Pure and simple. N00b jetwhores who don't know to strafe a 'just-turned-neutral' flag. Even more so for the attack chopper in question.

Doesn't work as far as I'm concerned, not seeing a name tag doesn't stop me from shooting anything that doesn't show up blue in the minimap. Every FPS gamer is triggerhappy (no, not that gay mod). Bullets/shells are free, how many of you blow up empty vehicles as you drive by in a tank etc? Itchy fingers yes, but its only natural.

i do shoot tanks to weaken them and that would work really well if you sit in an alley way while taking the flag or a dead end

I can see the F2 strategy being useful in certain limited situations, but not very often.

With the wide-open spaces on Oman in particular, if you have your team's UAV on your area you can switch to the driver's seat if you see any enemies approaching on the ground. This protects you against enemy C4 and vehicle attacks. I would never sit in F2 without the UAV overhead.

But even with UAV support, CrazeD's first two points remain valid: you can switch to the driver's seat if the minimap shows a teammate heading for your APC, but switching to the driver's seat loses all the advantages of being in the F2 seat in the first place.

And, most importantly, a smart pilot will bomb any gray flag. In fact I'd be even more likely to bomb a gray flag if I don't see an armor target near it because I would think enemies were capping the flag on foot--and players on foot are the easiest targets to kill with bombs.

I know were almost every vehicle will spawn and if its been moved. If i see a vehicle out of its spawn point i will check my radar and see if it shows up or if its a freindly but if its invisible then there is a enemy in it. Either way just point your crosshairs in its direction while on foot/chopper/vehicle and it will lite up or not but if in a jet and you switch to bomb mode it will most likely lite up wether theres an enemy or not because its been moved. I will never f2 in an apc mainly because the shooting/viewing radius is crap.

but it doesn't work in the chopper anymore! I was solo-heli-ing and turned to the F2 seat to release a TV missile, yet this guy still had a lock on me.
Never tried it in an apc though.
