Can anyone publish a breakdown of ping v lag?

eg

0 - 20 Excellent
21 - 40 No Lag

etc etc?

I was on a server last night and had a ping of 120....the game was as smooth as William Shatner's Head. It was ace.

There really isn't a direct corrilation between the two.  A low ping server can lag like hell because the server can't handle the traffic.

Ping is just how long it takes the packets to get to the server measured in milliseconds.  Lag takes into account ping times, but also factors in just how over worked the server is.  ie, running your BF2 server off of you web page server that also had your CheaterStrike server and your Q3 server with 15 different mods running.  Or some one is running a couple of different BF2 servers on the same machine.

Yeah I have to say there doesn't seem to be anything in the ping stuff. I play some servers and have a ping of 200-300, plays like silk, then I have pings of 20-40, plays like hell. I even had a ping of 600 yesterday and had no noticable lag. As Burning_Monkey says, it's all to do with what else is going on.

Lag is when some complains about they died from you because of lag.  Ping is when someone complains that you killed them because you have a lower ping than them....nevermind me, just remembering the days of Q2 and Q3.
