Just my penny's-worth, but...it is a glitch. I've had it happen to me.
A guy in my base who is (supposedly) a friendly. I think nothing of it, but he jumps into an APC and starts shooting at me. I don't fire back as I think he's just mistaken. He kills me. I scream gently about him being an asshat, and complain to my 2 housemates who were on the server with me on Teamspeak. I then wonder why it didn't show as a teamkill for him. I read out the guy's name and ask housemates which team this guy's on. They both say 'the enemy'.
He had a blue name tag, showed up on my radar and was dressed in US gear. It seems the red name tag bug thing is reversing sometimes.
Hurrah. If EA/DICE release Special Forces in the same state as BF2 was released in, I'll be calling up their helpline to chew the ear off the phone monkey who answers it.
