i installed 1.4 and now when i click the icon it says some shit about shaders and all and makes all the colours go weird on my screen
thats nothing, i wiped the coolant goo off my CPU. *Ummm fried computer....*
Did you back up your install like you were instructed to in the readme file that came with the patch? If so, just delete the 1.4 version and try it again.
no......there was no instruction for me to do so, i only read about it on these forumsShotYourSix wrote:

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
The 1.4 patch comes with a Word file that explains how to back up your install in case something like this happens (there are only 2 files there, the patch and another named READ ME FIRST) kinda hard to miss. Since you made no backup, you are probably going to have to reinstall the whole game (only this time, back it up BEFORE installing 1.4).david363 wrote:

Sorry, but thats your best option at this point.
Edit: Here is what the file says about backing up:
Installation steps to protect your original BF2 install:
Beta Installation
Go to “C:\Program Files\EA GAMES”
Right click the “Battlefield 2” folder and choose “Copy”
Right click anywhere away from this folder and choose “Paste”
Once the copy has completed, you will have two folders named “Battlefield 2” and “Copy of Battlefield 2”
Install the patch 1.4 beta, then start the game as normal
When you wish to switch back to the release version of BF2, use the following steps:
Go to “C:\Program Files\EA GAMES”
Right click the “Battlefield 2” folder and choose “Rename”
Rename the folder to something like “Battlefield 2 Beta”
Right click the “Copy of Battlefield 2” folder
Rename the folder the “Battlefield 2”
Start the game as normal.
The shortcut will run BF2.exe from whichever folder is named “Battlefield 2” and both installations share the same registry entries.
Using the above steps will negate the need to completely uninstall and re-install whenever you wish to switch from the retail version to the beta version and vice versa.

if you looked the patch brought up a screen and had a read me file that says look here first it tells you how to copy the file to make a backup.david363 wrote:

And the kid would run away crying saying "i cant, i just cant! My balls havent dropped yet!"
I doubt a older guy wouldnt read the ReadMe so im guessing its for "younger" kids.
