I only play bf2 for updating my stats and for medals etc... without the stats system i would have not played no where near as much as i have now.
Does anyone else play bf2 just for stats or for fun??
It seems to have lost its fun and i play serious every round.

I sort of think the other way.  I play for fun and get surprised when I get an award.  Every time that I really try and concentrate on getting an award, I seem to crash or the server crashes, and lose my award.  I earned the Veteran's Engineer Badge three! times before it actually showed on my Stats.  So now I just keep those awards in the back of my mind and will only concentrate on them if I happen to accidentially get close.  Except for that Purple Heart award.  My K/D ratio is low enough without earning that one.  :-P

I play for awards, which turns out to be for fun. However, I can't get the motivation if I know the next award is 50 odd hours away.

I used to prefer the demo days, where people didn't need to worry about stats and the rounds lasted forever it seemed. People were much more friendly, little 'n00b-ish' behaviour and actually worked together, you know, that teamwork thing.

I play for fun. I laugh at things people normally wouldn't, but I do get frustrated when I have 15 deaths and no kills.

I play for fun and teamplay and I'll take any award that comes with it. I won't play for a specific award if I cannot help my team at the same time.

Like I said strictly fun, but what's this I hear about Squads, I've only been in THREE good ones that didn't constantly lead me to death. I could do that on my own!

I don't really play for stats (even though they look fairly good)...I play to win! Seriously though, I've only played for quick awards like the airborne ribbon or the ground defense badge/ribbon.

I play for fun...  increasing my stats and getting awards is FUN!!  I played tons of non-ranked games (Quake1/2/3, UT, BF:Vietnam, etc.) but I enjoy the ranking system a lot.  I'm not sure how long my motivation will stay high since I recently passed 50k and won't get anything new for another 150k but we'll see.  Special Forces should be fun and I hope for some new (achievable) goals.
