My computer was having some problems.  So last night i used a beautiful little program called Acronis True Image Corporate Workstation.  What the program does is take an 'image' of your computer setup after you've done all the hard work of formating and updating.  Then once you get a virus or have some files corrupted or whatever, you can activate the program.  Acronis then will tear down and reninstate your machine back to its 'imaged' state.  This process takes 20 minutes.  Which is significantly less than your standard reformating which with my 250gb hard drive can take several hours just to partition and format my drive.

So this morning i reinstalled BF2 and the latest patch.  I've recovered my user id and logged in.  I am able to go the BFHQ, but when i try to bring up the server list 'multiplayer' i'm kicked out of the game completely.  I've been kicked out every single time i try to go multiplayer.  On a side note i did sucessfully bring up the multiplayer server list before i installed the patch.

Any thoughts?  Can i unistall the patch and try to patch it again?

I don't believe the patch can be "uninstalled" -- I think you have to reinstall BF2 as a whole. Not sure about that though.

This probably isn't your problem, but just in case...

Does your image contain the proper display drivers or an old version of your display drivers?  I had a similar problem after a recent reformat and realized that I had forgotten to get the latest version of my display drivers, as the ones on the cd are older and not supported by bf2.

ok i bet that you are right.  i think that it is that i've got to update the driver for my video card.  unfortunately i'm not very good at finding those sort of things.

i've got an ATI RADEON 9800 Pro if that helps, but the site that i go to shows so many different drivers that i can't figure out which one it is.

Chose your O/S then chose Radeon, then pick 5.11 driver.

Greenie you ROCK!!! thanks...found it really easily that way.  unfortunately after downloading and installing the driver updates i'm still not able to get the server list to comeup.  get kicked outta game as soon as i try.  (single or multiplayer)  everything else works fine.

[EDIT] i can't figure out what the hells wrong.  my other online games work just fine.  (WoW, Guild Wars, Civ3) haven't tested CS and really don't want to put that game back on my system.  any other suggestions?

hmm after yet another uninstall and reinstall i'm able to hit multiplayer/singleplayer without the game crashing.  Now for the patch...

[EDIT]  and now it crashes out of game once i've installed the patch.  grr....i've downloaded the patch from EA themselves too.

Dear Abbie:

ok i've done yet another (6th)uninstall and reinstall.  everything once more worked beautifully UNTIL i downloaded the patch and tried to install it.  at the very end of the install i recieved an error message saying 'failed to patch'.  then it gave me the finish screen.  it does this everytime with the patch for me and i've downloaded the patch from various different sites.

Signed,

so, what else have you changed (driver and config-wise) since it last worked?
