It seems most commanders I see posting talk about being engineers and occasionally snipers.  I am almost always special forces when I'm commander because I tend to keep an eye out for baddies coming toward assets.  I generally have a better chance again ANY approaching threat with special forces since it has a decent gun and I can use C4 if the baddies are in a vehicle or god-forbid, they steal our tank or APC.

So, the value of the engineer kit is obvious (repairs), the sniper kit is obvious to an extent (claymores warding off C4 guys), and I hope I have explained the Special Forces value, but I see no point in commanders being medic, assault, or AT.  Anyone disagree?

Thoughts?  Comments?  Insults?  Witty banter?

I slightly disagree, i would say as commander you should be engineer only. Simply due to the ability to repair your own assets and not wasting supply drops, which are rather needed for armor or a squad.

If you're not able to kill with the pistol, shotgun, grenades then you should do one thing: practice.

Engineer.

Why?  Cause I hate playing it on the field so I time pad it as commander.

Thats the only reason I would do anything else as commander is time pad a kit that I dont like playing.

Probably AT next :p

i agree with fierce, engy is the best. and if your in a transport, you can sit next to the asset and command and it will repair while you command.  i also like to put mines down so the spec ops cant drive into it with a jihad jeep

I agree that eng. is a good kit for a comander. However, there are times when you are comanding, but no one is taking flags and you are forced to go into harm's way. At this point you should use the kit you feel is best for you.

This can also be true if the other team is not going after your assets.

I like AT, especially on Mashtuur, as - historically - when the enemy turn up to steal the BH, you could take 'em out pretty damn quick.  Also, it's handy for helping shoot down any passing transport choppers.

Just how I play I guess.

The server I like to use forbiany fighting as Commander so I have to choose engineer to kick my assets up and running while I send supply to a needy tank - once in a round I was sniper and I set up claymores as security and BOOM they enemy commander tripped it and I got in trouble bc I was fighting - I stated that I was protecting my 6 and that the enemy command was sneaking up on me for a kill - they replied with "He is an Admin he has that priviledge" from that moment on I unleashed arty and cararty hell on them and won and I walked away with a silver and smile bc they were pissed

Engy.  Because in my experience, no one EVER repairs the assets for you when you ask a squad to, they just keep killing people

so i always am Engy so i don't have to waste time asking assholes to do it for me, when i can just do it myself (and hey, i get points for it too ... well, sort of)

depends... if my assets are blown to hell i am engineer, if there are alot of orders and stuff to do, i'm sniper... i'm AT when i'm guarding a CP and i'm spec ops when there are alot of enemies close by... but i'm probably sniper 60-70% of the time, 10-15% AT... and the rest spec ops or engineer... never assault, medic or support, they got nothing the commander has any use for...

oke, first of all, do you only play karkand? cause there a tank/apc is a big deal, but any level with choppers/planes its not.

things handy when commander:

medic - if a teammate is wounded, you can easely see it on the map.
engi - repair assests, protect the base with mines, see health of cars on the map.
ammo - well, i cant think of anny, cause with 1 bullet shot there is a red thing around the person on the map.
anti tank - defend a flag, dao = infantry pwnage, sraw is anti armor......
sniper - prevent noobs from knifing you, so they can wank to it later that night.
spec ops - you sayd it, and c4 to protect a flag if needed
i got the feeling a forgot a kit, but its problebly useless as commander........ *hind hind*

i think engineer is the best because you can repair your commander assets when the spec-ops guys come and blow it all up

totally agreed. most commanders drop supplies right when an asset is destroyed. now the enemy spec ops can resupply and blow up the rest of the assets. smart move

keep supplies for the troops and play as engy me thinks.

spec ops is THE WORST kit for commander, why? Some medic runs into your base to baserape, kills you, steals your spec ops kit, blows the assets...unlucky. If you want to be able to own people, pick medic, if you want to repair stuff, pick engineer, if you want to boost your sniper KD ratio, pick sniper

i used to hate being engy, but when i started on the mines i saw it's one of the best kits...
there is nothing i hate more than being a insurgent commander on warlord, when only having one of the CP at the palace and the TV station, 90% of the team is in the palace and the other 10% are snipers hiding on roofs... on to the point... when commanding look at which kit already are on the team... if there are full of snipers and alot enemy armour, do not think that your team is smart enough to change too AT or Spec Ops, pick your kit carefully, plan your moves and try to figure out the enemy commanders plans...

Sometimes when people switch to C4, they dont really look at the number of bricks they have, so they'll throw one thinking theyre gonna go right ahead and throw 2, but they only HAVE 1.  So they'll get a detonator.  As for the other bricks I dont know where I put them.  I just run around and throw them like on tanks and humvees.  So he may end up getting a kill or two.

Its asset roulette bitches.

Good for you... it's annoying when people make up stupid rules like that... It should be a commander's prerogative to fight... if they do, they just run the risk of not performing well as a commander and losing it for their team. Although if they are smart, they won't occupy choppers, jets, or armor (unless they are sitting vacant ripe for the enemy to hijack). That's server's reponse is so gay... no admin should have special 'privilege'.

As for the best class to use as Commander... Engineer makes the most sense... so you can fix your own assets... but I sometimes like using sniper to protect assets and kill from a distance... or spec ops for the good overall ability to take out enemies and advancing armor... plus another advantage to being spec ops is that the opposing commander won't be able to detect you with a scan (which is good if he's trying to spot you out or trying to kill you with cararty or something).

Whatever kit I need time on. The clan will repair my assets if they go down; we always have a few Engys willing to get a few free points, but I always scan and try to keep baddies away from my assets whenever possible.
