I just finished building my new computer yesterday, got everything running, just need to do a few things to make it perfect.

I installed BF2 almost immediately after I installed the rest of it. Just had to update drivers and install basic software, y'know, the normal stuff. So I install BF2 and it's version 1.00 or 1.01 or something like that.

I go to battlefield2.com and download the new v1.03 patch directly from EA. It takes like half an hour, but it gets to me. I go to install it, and it asks me what language I want it in or something, then it goes to a screen that says "Patching" and almost immediately this error window comes up telling me I'm a dousch bag and there was a problem installing, and that the patch failed to install.

Great. I click OK on the error message, and then another message comes up telling me that the patch was successfully installed. Okay.... So I load up BF2, it loads. And where that advertisement for the expansion pops up, I notice that the buttons are different. Instead of saying "Preorder" or "No Thanks" or whatever it says (can't remember off-hand) it says "BUTTON_Preorder" and "BUTTON_No Thanks." I noticed that in a few other places the coding seems to be showing through too, but as long as I can play, I don't care. I click the multiplayer button and INSTANTLY the game crashes to desktop without a word.

I boot the game back up, try it again, it happens again. Boot it up again, this time push the Single Player button, it crashes again.

I decide to uninstall the game at this point, and reinstall it. I read on the forums somewhere else by a moderator that some people have to install v1.02 BEFORE they install v1.03 so I look around the internet, and eventually manage to find a site that still gives out v1.02. But first I test the game, just to make sure it's not my computer. I boot it up with its original version, click on multiplayer and it works fine. There's only 43 servers still running the original unpatched version of the game, but I'm at least able to get into them.

I then install v1.02. I go to the multiplayer server chooser thing, and there's like, 180 servers still running v1.02. I remember a few days ago when I was playing v1.03 on my old computer there were over 3,000 servers, so 180 doesn't impress me much. I don't bother playing a multiplayer game on v1.02, I just go over to single player to see if it runs. It does, and let me tell you, the graphics look AMAZING. I used to play this game with all the settings turned on low, now they're on high, and it just looks spectacular.

Anyway. I then look around the internet for a different place to download v1.03, and I used the links section from the official website. I think I did it at Fileplanet or something like that. One of the top few servers on the list. I didn't get the same error message, but I got a different one entirely, and I'm still not able to play.

Is anyone else having problems with this? Does anyone know where I can download a GOOD copy of the latest patch?

What did the new error message say?

I think I got my patch from fileplanet too. I always d/l there, good speeds. So their patch should be good. Try just installing the  1.03 patch, thats what I do and it works fine for me. Sorry couldnt be more help, but I bet its just one of those things, damn computers!

Is your HD partitioned?

When the 1.03 patcher runs it needs 2.5 GB of space to unzip before it completely patches the files.  If you have a small partition for your OS and then your game in a larger partition you need to make sure that the patcher is running from your larger partition and not your desktop (which is likely on your OS partition).
