i often wonder what other people think about the sniper rifles, i have the unlock but i usualy use the USMC M24 but if on the china or MEC team ill take the unlock.
Poll
What do you think the best sniper rifle is....
Usmc M24 | 61% | 61% - 44 | ||||
Mec Svd | 1% | 1% - 1 | ||||
PLA Type 88 | 8% | 8% - 6 | ||||
Unlock - M95 | 29% | 29% - 21 | ||||
Total: 72 |
The M24 is nice. However, it is good to be able to shoot through cockpit glass. Also, I'm not very fond of the MEC and PLA 3 shot kill rifles. My vote is for the M95.
M95
Basically the same weapon as the M24 with the ability to shoot through glass. It's saved me from Mad Max humvee drivers before. And despite what most ppl seem to believe, the scope works.

i like the PLA gun because its semiautomatic but you dont have to cockit and i got like 5 kills in one round with it more than ever
M24 if possible, as usually I can get headshots, and sometimes i'll go with the M95 when China or MEC, but many people underestimate the real power behind the semi-automatic sniper rifles. They are better in most situations as their repeated fire can be used for supressing or can deliver 3 shots to the same targeted place in rapid sucession. Its just practice, practice, practice!
Its situational.
At short-medium distances I prefer the SVD because its semi-automatic. A M95 wont kill infantry when they are rushing you and you cant place a headshot. I've had more than a few over-anxious people rush me when they thought they had the upperhand, only to end up laying on their back.
medium to medium long distances I prefer the m24 because of the thinner lines for the crosshairs. Makes it easier to line up headshots.
For long range and bullet proof glass obviously the m95.
If I had to pick one though it would be the m24. You dont get many chances to shoot people through glass and even then its hard to hit them unless they are heading straight for you in your forward arc of fire. If they come at you from the side, its kinda pointless, since you wont see them till its too late. If you are so close to use SVD you are just as good as a target to them as they are to you. M24 is a good medium long distance rifle that keeps you out of harms way while still being effective to your unit.

the pla all the way, its way better than the others easilly, no doubt about it.
m24, same damage as the m95 and a bit more accurate...
as for infantry rushing you, if your ever in that kinda situation, u need to find a better place to camp. if your using the m24 or m95, hit them once switch to pistol and their dead in 1 shot, pretty easy.
my ranking of the sniper rifles would probably be:
1. m24
2. m95
3. PLA
4. SVD - hate the scope of this gun LOL

umm, im not telling -- its a secret
I'm using the M95 more and more, and I'm liking it more and more too. Sure, I was the one to start the initial complaint here on Bf2s.com, but I've grown to like the oversized beast. I love mgetting moving target headshots - a specialty of mine in BF1942, and the M95 is good for these as the bullets drop less.

well, ive been playing sniper awhile now (check my stats) and i reckon ive only killed about 10-20 people through armored glass - so that side is somewhat over-rated
no doubt,
the M24 is a better weapon. I've killed some people through glass, yawn. It doesn't happen NEARLY enough to make up for the better accuracy of the M24, which does the exact same damage.

I prefer the M24 also over the others. I don't mind the bolt action reload. I kill more with it then the M95. I do like the power of the M95. It has some serious distance to it. Althought the crosshairs could be skinnier.
The accuracy with the M95 is way less, and it isn't more powerful though
The accuracy of the weapon is relative to the size of the freakin' crosshairs, which is human error. I'm sure if you lined up your target's head with the point in the middle of the black line that counts as a crosshair, the M95 would be more accurate, as the bullets are more powerful, and thus would not drop as much, and also go faster, making the distance you have to lead your target by less.
The M95 would be more accurate then the M24.

m24 has lower deviation mod when zoomed but is identical to the m95 in all other aspects (except for shooting through glass), not to mention it makes less noise.

Ive taken peeps out at max distance. Is there really such a thing a bllit drop? - personally ive never had to adjust for it.
The only problem I have is the crosshair drag after i fire a bullit. I dont know if its common, but I get it about once every 5 shots - plays havoc with your accuracy.
Oh, and you probably will know this by now, due to the glitches in the game, a large amount of shots (which are clear hits) dont register. On that subject, I just shot a guy 8 times in a jeep turret, each were headshots, but none registered. Not sure of the reasons for all this, maybe the angle, maybe the hitboxes differ...

i dont know how the m95 couldnt win this poll...its the best in the game and thats that!
m24, it can actually hit things.
KimSnow, nice stats lad, I'm top 25 w/ sniper rifle and my k/d is a joke compared to yours. A testament of a true snipe, nice work.
I used the 95 for awhile and my stats are still suffering from it, The 1-2 times per map/round that I actually need to shoot through glass are far nullified by the sheer # of 1 shot kills w/ the 24. the 95 nowadays is nothing short of frustrating to me, If im MEC, I'll grab the 95 but will only take down target's at extreme ranges where I find my hit ratio's are much better. short/med range the 95 drives me to drink.
Slainte
ps. actually I'm Irish so the sun rising and setting also drives me to drink but thats neither here nor there:)

Ill stick with the M95.
i like both the m95 and m24
Ooh thx, but you got more kills than me.
As BF2 is a "team game" I probably shouldnt say this BUT, being a sniper is a great way to avoid the most depressing aspect of the game - your own team's stupidity
I very rarely get teamkilled as sniper, although I manage to average killing at least one of my teammates per round with a claymore (and of course they punish) - which i find funny.
Being a sniper is all about your OWN skill/tactics. But more than anything its about keeping your distance from everyone else - this means of course that the auto sniper weapons with the lack of accuracy defeat the purpose of being a sniper.
I only use m24, or m95 if im not on USA side.

Oh, and other thing, I used to snipe on karkand, lol big mistake - I wasted 150 deaths there!
I don't really use sniper rifles, but the best one would have to be m95 because its the only 1 that can kill me.
