I guess this can go in "help" because I don't understand, but if this is in the wrong place I'm sure it will just get moved...

I just got promoted to Master Sergeant. I didn't get the basic knife so I didn't get promoted to First Sergeant (watch me cry in my pillow over it). My question, or rather my comment which I am hoping an educated BF individual can answer... is am I now forever ineligble for Sergeant Major?

On this site it says my next rank up will be Srgt. Major, and I have the necessary badges listed for that, however on my BF2HQ in the game it says my next rank is 'Master Gunnery Srgnt.' I find this to be a little intriging. Does Sergeant Major require First Sergeant status? If not why does the game claim my next rank is Mst. Gun Srgt?

I personally could give a flying hump, the game is fun and thats why I play it, not for 'status.' I'm just wondering what the deal is.

Anyone know?

I don't have any knowledge of people who have made the jump from Master Sgt. to Sgt. Major, however if you have all of the badges required then I think you will most likely be awarded the Sgt. Major rank at the next rank.

If you don't have all the pre-requisite basic badges when you've got 20000 points, you will be stuck with the rank of Master Sergeant until you reach 50000 and get promotion.

duh,

I know that... I'm not looking for promotion from Master to First Srgnt. You're missing the point. I'm wondering what will happen at 50,000. I have all the required badges for Srgt Major, yet in my BFHQ in the game it says my next rank will be Master Gunnery Sergeant.

I'm wondering if you have to be a First Segreant to get Sgt. Major, and if not, why does it say my next rank is Mst Gunn?

No. The "jumps" aren't dependant upon each other. If you have the 'award set' for one and not the other it has no effect on either.

i like that

i dont think they thought this stuff out before implementing it. im glad they changed ranking with 1.03, but could have done a much better job and used insentives to motivate people. oh well, just had to vent a lil bit.

No you can become Sgt. Maj.

I was in the EXACT same situation you are in.. didnt get the requirements for First sergeant...
however, if you get the badges required for Sgt. Maj. you will be promoted to that.

just get your things in time and you'll be alright

cool. thanks Z for answering, and chuy I trust your site, but it was curious to me that my BFHQ said Master Gunny for next rank. I have all the prereq badges for Srgt Major, so I just don't know why it doesn't list that as my next rank up. ah well, 30,000 points away anyway. sigh
