Agreed. It's the same with the badges, some badges were supposed to be hard to get, now everyone can get it, it doesn't mean anything. A bit off topic but I wanted to mention it

They could have at least made it so you unlock the SF unlocks with each rank as well, not 2 per rank with SF.

I agree completely with the OP.

For everyone who's like "omg but i paid for the game zomg give me everything at once"... if you buy a single player game you don't get to play the last level straight away, if you buy a roleplay you don't get to go straight in with a high level character with all items, you have to earn rewards.

For all the unlocks I've got, which is all of them, the only truly satisfying ones were the ones I got before the ranks were nerfed. The best ever was my first unlcok,when I got the G36C and played a few rounds with it. It was an achievement, it was special, and it wasn't something that everybody had, because you got unlocks rarely enough that even the good and frequent players didnt have that many.

It doesn't really bother me that they changed it, not really. I like the game, I play the game, I like the unlocks. Just saying, that getting an unlock used to be something special. Nowadays using kit weapons is as rare as using unlocks used to be.

YEAH was waiting ages 4 first unlock was so happy when i happened then all of a sudden i had loads 2 chose from , felt like i didnt earn them

i miss the good ole days especially when i enlisted on 7-25-2005.

ranking up was a pain in the butt but there was one thing back then that i miss now: TEAMWORK

it was not about ranking up or getting the nice cool weapons. it was having fun and helping out your team to win.

now these days its " screw you this" and "screw you that" , "you noob" , " STFU smacktard" and the king of all flaming:  WTF you tk me for the f-15.

now its all about getting nice shiny medals, badges, ribbons and getting to the next rank. it has become to a point where " i dont care about you anymore, i care about my awards and stats"

the stats/ awards created by EA is basically a double edged sword.


the only problem i have with ranks is that there is a big huge gap between gunnery sgt. and first/master sgt.

Yeah I remember that, it was freaky, everytime I scored a point I got promoted. I was at about 13,000 points, so I got pretty far up. I pressed tab and I saw all sorts of ranks I'd never seen before.


But back to the topic on hand: Yes, unlocks definately made you feel special. I remember going around picking up kits hoping to find an unlock to play around with. I remember my first unlock, I fucked up the choosing thing and chose a G3 which I thought (and actually was) pretty horrible (back then at least) and I pissed all over myself for being so stupid.

I played hard, on and on, brought my SPM up and my K/D up, just to get to 10,500 points and the G36C I craved so much. When I did get it, I was jumping for joy, and I pulled an all-nighter of using that gun. And I can tell you it felt damn good. I could say "Bitch now I'm the one with the '36C!". Plus, getting to the Corporal rank was really special. Almost everyone before 1.03 was a Lance Corporal, on a server you might see one or two higher. And everyone was just in the Lance Corporal pit. But once you reached Corporal, you felt like one of the elite. The better than everyone else group. It felt damn good.

Then 1.03 came, and came with the unlocks. I remember the kind of feel that a lot of people had about the DAO-12. People would read about it, and say "hmm that sounds pretty cool", but unlocks were very valuable, and no one wanted to 'waste' it on what might be a crappy gun. But with the new purge of unlocks, people tried their luck and I remember everyone was whoring the DAO-12 on Wake. It was like trying ecstacy or something, no one was sure they wanted to waste money and an unlock slot for it, but when they got it everyone went uber-hyper and happy.

So yeah games change get use to it, there is nothing you can do about it so quit complaining, and starting these pointless threads, yes things were better back in the day, but those days are over, this is how things are now if you dont like it then dont play, people are always going to complain because some one else is better then them or they dont have this gun or that gun, and if enough of them complain then the will get there way sooner or later, you know your better then them so leave it at that.  EA doesn't care what any of us think the game should have been or what the should have done, they want people to spend money on the game simple and plain, and if by making ranks and unlocks easy to get,  causes more peole to go out and buy the game you can bet your ass that they will keep making it easyer and easyer.  Just play and have fun quit worring about everyone else if some one wants to cheat there going to cheat, if they want to run around and kill everyone on there team then they are going to do just that, your not going to change someones point of view because you think things were better the other way, i for one agree with you but please stop this madness and go on with your life.

I'd just like to see the 36E be "locked" until you reach like Sgt. Major.  But I say that just because it would increase my KDR by .7

Personally I love the 101.  I can 2:1 anywhere with it.  The L85 is good for USMC for me because I love my full auto.  I dont spray and pray, it just gives me the right amount of bullets in the right amount of clicks.

Yeah I whore medic.  All the other kits its the same deal.  I like the RPK74, but I dont like the M249, so I use the PKM.  But I still use them, mostly because of me joining a clan and practicing with unlocks.

Meh I just woke up.  Unlocks, stock, I really couldnt give a shit.  I dont base my life off of the guns I use.  Seriously, I hate the 36E, but I deal with it, I just have to beat them in the draw. 

But I really dont care about determining my own self esteem over the unlocks.
