G'day,

I'm posting this here because I got little help on the help forum, and the problem has been there for almost a day now, still no luck-Ive read totalBF2 forums, BF2 Tracker forums, EA forums and ive even asked customer support to try and fix the problem-nothing worked.

Today out of nowhere I kicked from a server with the message 'please revert back to the unmodified client bla bla', its happend before so I reinstalled, which seemed to go smoothly..
Then I tried to patch and the patch said 'Couldn't fine Battlefield 2 install folder' so, reinstall again..
Then on this reinstall I got this error as soon as it finished installing all the files:

https://img96.imageshack.us/img96/7294/errorinstallgl2.png

After that the setup closes and it ends up not installing anything..

Ive tried uninstalling BF2SF as well and then installing bf2, no luck there...
Tried resetting computer...nothing
I think something must have went wrong with the uninstall, I cant find the bf2 program in add/remove programs in control panel.

PS: I have tried the following-

-Clearing the registry for anything bf2 related (failed)
-Searching every bf2 forum known to man
-Empying recycle bin then installing
-Extracting everything off the CD into a folder and installing
-1000 time resetted computer.
-Installing the game on a different administrator account on XP. (EA guy told me too)

EA guy is full of it because when bf2 installs it's a global program, not user specific. Sorry.

I've never heard of this problem before. When in doubt, reformat.

I would-but its a family computer...if you format (I havn't done it before) do you lose absolutly everything? Or can you pick what to have deleted?

You lose everything.  If you end up reformatting try saving the important stuff to cd/dvd that way you at least can retrieve that.

Have you looked in your Program Files and deleted the BF2 folder from in there as well what you have already done?

Just format the drive you have windows on... put everything you need to another drive

That's what I did when I had to format, I moved everything I need to D and just formatted C where windows is

Save files and re-format?  Wow, current posters are ready for Dell's $9.00/hr. first-line customer service!

Don't reformat.  Take your time, talk to knowledgable people possible outside the forum, and work through the issue.

"I have a flat tire!"  "Don't worry, just buy a new car!"  Not strong logic.

ONE..you were looking at a Karkand map and TWO SF CD wouldn't give you an error.

I usually get errors also when I accidently click on a Karkand map, shit happens.

ADVICE: Clean your registry.

How many people started clicking that error button? Was I the only one??

To me it looks like an "INSTALLSHIELD" error. It happened to me once I had to redownload the frickin' Install shield and take that mug out of the registry. But I've seen wierder things.

i wouldnt mess with your registry unless you know 100% what you are doing, otherwise you can loose all data on your PC.....

My honst advice to you would be to save all your documents/music/settings to another hard drive then reformat.

Quick questions:

1. DO you have another hard drive in your computer?
2. Do you have a cd/rw or a dvd/rw?
3. Do you have a windows XP disc?
4. Do you have the driver discs for your computer?

That's a car, not a computer. A reformat is free, a car is not.

People pick the worst analogys these days...

Here is the responce I got from EA:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.  I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with Battlefield 2.

This usually occurs on a Windows XP system when more than one user account is present or an administrator configuration file has been corrupted. Please try running or reinstalling the game in a new administrator account.

If you are playing under a Limited User account, you must use the "Run as Administrator" option.
(http://eatech.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/eate … _admin.php)

Fast-User Switching is not supported.

If you have more than one user account on your system, you can try removing the other accounts, with the exception of the

Administrator (or Owner in Windows XP Home Edition). You can then log out and back in again with the Administrator account.

If you only have one user account on the system try creating another Administrator account (or Owner in Windows XP Home Edition) level account and install the game under that account.
(http://eatech.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/eate … _admin.php)

Should you require further assistance about this or any Electronic Arts games in the future please visit our website and review our extensive Self Help knowledgebase (http://support.ea.com)
I made a new admin user, logged out of the current one and onto that one-still no success.
