ok....so...i just started getting "into" planes and i dont think im a bad bomber but when it comes to avoiding locked on missiles, and fighting other planes, im bound to die.

I feel i cant turn as sharp as them and they always loose me but the are locked on me forever!!!

tips on flying in general and basic tips for piloting planes will be great too!

thanks

Don't get in the F-35 if there is a half-way decent pilot on the other team. Its a flying coffin now.

well wen i first started to use planes the same thing happened to me but as i kept flying i found these two important things that helped me fly better 1)when your getting chased and shot by a plane try to do a barrel roll it helps me alot also fly up high and use the accelerator to lose them and when i am trying to shoot down a plane i chase it for a while and i do not shoot that way they do not know i am behind em i keep chasing them until i am right behind em and i have i perfect shot and i start to shoot every bit of ammo and missles i got and then there down works for me good luck

yup i agree with JOEMAH....f-35 sucks....MIG-29 is the best i believe as well as j-10...both are faster than the American plane.....one tip when flying in the f-35 is to get behind the other plane and shoot your bullets while having your bombs on and your enemy wont know your behind them until its too late...cuz if you use your missiles, they will just go right behind the enemy plane and then shoot somewhere else and maybe even hit a teammate and you get team vehicle damage.....

If you're REALLY lucky, you can often fly by a friendly airvehicle if you've got a lock on you... sometimes the missle will hit him instead of you.... Admittedly, that wont make you POPULAR... but you will survive... Best tactics to avoid missle locks are as follows (for new pilots, not experienced ones, different tactics apply to them due to higher skill level, and their ability to follow and perform more difficult maneuvers):

1) PRAY the guy behind you is as bad or worse than you.
2) Go high, or go low... Dont stay smack in the middle of his crosshairs, and in PARTICULAR, do not engange in a digfight in range of ground based AA missiles, at least not ENEMY AA missiles.
3) If you go high, do barrelrolls, loops anything to get the enemy pilot to stall/loose control.
4) If you go low, fly between trees, buildings, under bridges anywhere you think you can safely navigate your airplane, the enemy might not be able to follow, and he will mOST DEFINATELY not be able to keep a lock.
5) Dont think you're safe because you did a barrelroll, loop, or turn.  Keep moving untill you've got him infront of you so you KNOW he's not behind you.
6) Reverse thrusters only works in movies and cartoons, not in real life or in this game. The time it takes you to slow down is so long you'll be respawned by the time the plane is even at half it's original speed
7) Avoid flying too close to enemy AA positions. On maps with mobile AA, watch your minimap for spots. LISTEN to the con chatter for enemy "AA vehicle spottet", learn what this sounds like in chineese and arabic.
8) Find the right keyboard settings for YOU if you fly KB/Mouse. High sensitivty is good for fast turns, it's bad for trying to dogfight, as MG gets more inacurate, and you tend to have more troubles doing tricky stunts.
9) Try to get a joystick, you can make much more "practical" maneuvers to escape an enemy planes missile lock with a joy. Also most people fly with mouse/KB. You have the advantage of being able to turn much easiser than them, because they have to move their mouse if they use that. KB only flyers will not fall for this trick. But if you've got one of THEM on your tail, you're already screwed as pr #1
10) Do NOT flare just because you get the "beep beep" sounds... WAIT untill the lock on you has been established (continous BEEEEEEEEEEEEP) otherwise you're wasting your flares, and they reload SLOW on an airplane. THEN you wait a short time (not too long or the missles will hit. Try to determine exactly HOW far behind you the enemy plane is by looking at your minimap when people spot it) and THEN you flare and maneuver.
11) Barrelrolls are good for avoiding the MG fire... not the missiles.
12) Switching from sharp turns to not so sharp and back again may confuse lesser expereinced pilots. So use your afterburners in turns sometimes, not ALL the time.
13) DONT PANIC !

Jet specific things to learn:
J10: when AA missles are fired on you, simply use afterburners. You fly faster than the missles, you will not get hit.
F35: You have a higher ceiling than most planes. Going high is good for you. Also you have the ability to hover, dont think it's useful for a SECOND. Always go full speed, even if the J10 is faster than you. If you have to fly a coffin, at least do it with STYLE.
Any bomber: You're screwed. Bombers cannot survive dogfights with fighters. Pair up with your local fighter and have him watch your tail. Watch for enemy AA, even stationary AA can easily take you out because you fly a lot slower than a fighter, and thus you can usually NOT get out of range before a lock. Strafe ALL AA sites you pass over.

Beyond that.... Find a good pilot to learn from. I'm only mediocre, and should in no way be considered a usefull source for learning anything except the bare basics from. Read the aviator tutorial, and try playing on an unranked server... Once upon a time there was a great practice map with like 16 jet/side.

Use afterburners *while* turning makes the turn faster.

Also, try to turn on edge, bank at least a little.  Easier to do with joystick, but can be done with mouse effort.  Just using "A" or "D" will give you a long, loping turn...useful for a bomber on the edge of the map, coming around for a flag target...not useful for a fighter who has enemy on tail.

Also, when you get "tone" for missile, quickly check your six by using "chase rear" view.  Map it on joystick, or learn to do it with keys.  It can help see if enemy is launched AA missile (use flares!) or enemy jet, and how close they are.

(Note: I think default key for "chase rear" is F11...if you also have FRAPs on your computer, make sure that's not same key to start recording, or you will soon fill harddrive with movies.)

what i do when someone gets a lock on is release the flares on full lock, then boost straight up, then at about 600 i start doing a continuous loop the loop til he gets bored or completely runs out of ammo, the missiles never hit me when i do that they always shoot past me cus im constantly on full turn.

oh and a bombing tip, stay high, at about 500, and then drop down to about 150-200 in on ur target, release the bombs, then boost straight back up again, also if u fly high, u can usually lock onto alot of pilots who fly low, cus they never see you, and you can just jump straight on their tail.

flying high is the key. or at least for me it is, i have my way and it works for me, u just gotta find what works for you, the best thing u can do is fly alot trying out different tactics, and see which best fits you

The F-35 is the fastest plane in the game.

Find any source that lists actual dogfighting manuevers they work just as well in Bf2 as in RL.  If you really dont know any then try to do a manuever you think is fairly hard to follow and repeat it about 2 or 3 times, then pull off in a totally different direction.  The enemy pilot gets used to following the same manuever then is left in the dust when u tear off in a totally opposite direction.
