Extreme 3D Pro is nice, twist axis is priceless. I still actually prefer mouse for heli for some reason though.

A joystick gives a sence of realism altho i dont pretent to be in a real plane when i use it lol. A big advantage is variable throttle. I flew as a gunner in the attack chopper the other day with a 'keyboard and mouse guy' and while he was trying to hover, the heli kept jerking up and down cause he was pressing the throttle up button every half a second or so, making it almost impossible for me to hit anything with any of the guns, even at close ranges. A joystick with variable throttle makes hoovering much easier and this provides a more stable platform for your gunner while flying attack choppers. Variable throttle is also cool when you re flying jets of course, when you want to hoover the f35 for repairs etc.

Maybe its easier to explane why i like joysticks. I ve bought a microsoft sidewinder force feedback 2 a couple of years ago cause i wanted to learn how to fly planes in bf1942 and heli's in dc. Since i started using it, my flying improved a lot. After a couple of months practice, i was invited to become a pilot for a bf1942 clan and half a year later i was invited to become a pilot for a big international gaming clan. Back to the joysticks, i love how i can control the whole plane and everything i need with basically one hand. I dont use my left hand very much, only to deploy flares, look at the map, zoom map and control the throttle of course. Because controlling the planes and choppers with a joystick is pretty easy, that means i can concentrate fully on flying.

Here's my set up. (quick ms paint thingy)

Edit: forgot to mention this joystick is not available at stores anymore so i suggest if you want to buy one, take my advise and dont buy the cheapest one that you can find please, buy a proper one with force feedback.

I heard paint has a big loophole that can let hackers in.

I apologise profusely, I could talk in an upper class manner if that is preferable to your taste in the stonkingly good language of English.  God save the Queen.

I have a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro

The only problem  I've had with it so Far is one of the Buttons i have to press harder then the others, Which isn't
a big deal..

I find that Turning in smooth patterns, and Quick Movements in a jet are alot Easier with a Joystick.

With a mouse, i find its easier to Control your Machine gun Fire in a steady Pace... But with Some Practice with a Joystick, you should get it down. Remember To Move your Stick Slowly and steady for this

For Helicopters, I never really liked Joysticks

I find that Keyboard only works really well for me, Mouse, i have no way in hell to control it

With a Joystick, Many people Roll the chopper and over-correct the Lean (x-axis?) on the heli..

But..  good thing with the Joystick, is you can set your Throttle Settings, which can come in handy when you want to do a perfect hover... I hover with NO movement at all.. Try doing that with Keyboard/mouse.

So, in my opinion, Get the Joystick.. cause every single Bit helps when your trying to "own" the other Guy..
