Well that's his only option.  It's not actually any different than PCI-E cuz with those older cards, you couldn't even tell a difference in benchmarks between PCI-E and AGP 8x.  Only with the newest, high-end cards will they be able to take advantage of the bandwidth PCI-E has to offer.
