I'll admit it...  i'm a helo whore as my stats will tell you.  I've got over 100 hours, most of which is piloting.

So the question to my fellow pilots is, what do you do when theres not a good gunner to be found?  Sometimes I just find myself infuriated at the lack of thinking these people are doing - YES, I understand that it takes practice at gunning, but I also understood how I learned - on a server not at full capacity of 64 players.

And another gripe....  When I first started playing this game, I looked at the different ranks and medals and whathave you, and really understood how many hours a sergeant major must put in (and especially captain and higher) to get where they are...  its like some people don't even care about that little symbol above your head...  They want to fly that helo when they can't even line up a gunner for a shot.

But I digress....  what do you pilots do when theres no good gunner to be found?  Yelling at the noobs doesn't help...  I've tried to suggest they go play single player mode to become proficiant, but that doesn't seem to help...  the only thing that actually does anything is if I say "Hey, me and a friend are paying money at a lan center to play this, do you care if we fly together?"

that sometimes gets them out....  but i'll only use that if i'm really in the same room as a friend - I don't need no stinking lan center, i'm almost 30.

That was more of a rant than a question wasn't it...  well, sorry, I type quickly.

The vast majority of people who call people "n00bz" seem to think that they were insanely skilled at BF2 from birth.

Face it. Everyone has sucked at one time.

I try and give them a chance, but If I can see the person in my cockpit view and they cant see it in nose view, and we get SRAW'ed or ERYX'ed, i yell at him, then give him a tip...

I get angry, yell at them constantly, then tell them to piss off, otherwise I happily fly them to the edge of the map.

I am so sick of those players who seem to be blind, not shooting at any infantry. or the vast, vast majority of players who could not hit a chopper with a TV guided missle to save their mom.

If i line up a TV rocket shot and they don't shot or use their MG on the target, i ask them to press the right mouse button and explain them how to use it. When the gunner is listening, i line up targets for them and give hints for steering etc.

If not i go for the kills and use the rockets against everything moving.

absolutely.  Nothing will make them a better gunner beyond you being a good pilot and letting them burn a few rounds.  Hell, get them while they're young and train them to your pleasing, develop a rapport with them, and pwn more.

when I pilot, I will line up some shots for the gunner.  If he only goes MG on heavy vehicles like armor or helis, I won't set him/her up anymore.  Usually if this happens, I will either spam "Get Out" until we get killed or he leaves, or I fly over an enemy CP and tell him to get out.  These two tactics work 90% of the time.  Or, if I am playing with a friend, I will just ask him nicely to let my friend in, and if we die and he's still waiting, I'll let him take it.

Actually, not all did suck at the beginning, when I first jumped in a heli in BF2 it took me 10 seconds to learn how to control it.

Yes, I did fly helos in DC for a year before I BF2 was released, so I had some kind of practice.

i tend to fly to another, preferably enemy helicopter, land, take it, and leave the bad gunner. he then has the choise to fly for himselves or take the psp, either way, good for our team.

I don't even see how it's so hard to be a gunner, all you really have to do is point and click, aim ahead if need be but most pilots just hover. The thing I can't stand are the people who are thinking I'm flying those attack helis for transport, they don't bother shooting, it's like they hopped in and then left the room. I know I'm nowhere near the best at being pilot but I can fly without a problem at this point, and whenever I have a gunner I just hover there. I bob up and down a bit because I use a keyboard but I don't see how you can't aim at people running like that. I feel your pain when it comes to finding a good gunner. I enjoy being gunner myself though so if you ever see me running around let me hop in, I'm pretty good.

Well heres a story from a gunners perspective:

When I hear something like this I wonder is it actually the "GUNNER"? My problem is I can't find a decent pilot!
Many times I will happily gun for the pilot and lo and behold he "forgets" that he has a gunner and he blares 8 missles at a tank while Im looking at a fast moving ground on my TV HUD. It happens CONSTANTLY! Let the gunners GUN. Nose UP you pilot retards. Or you see this pilot unload 8 missles and almost or crashing into a tree/ground, and the likes of you got your target and he abruptly turns or hears that alarm and freaks out.

I've had TWO great pilots that understood this pilot/gunner relationship; because they know it is 90% pilot and 10% gunner; these two pilots never once shot a missle and we ended up clearing the servers or getting massive "you guys hack" remarks. Granted you will have the bad gunners, but mostly I hear of bad pilots that dont let the gunners gun. Trust me there are more bad pilots than gunners. Also it takes communication no matter how bad one or the other is, the gunner is supposed to be telling the pilot where the ground troops are and the pilot deals with the skies. Its hard to see things your gunner/pilot doesnt' see.

SO before you go blaming shit on all gunners remember you got to start with the person owning 90% of the work -- the pilot. This pilot isn't supposed to fire weapons unless in a jam in the air to air or reloading the tv. So that means 90% of the time the pilot is at fault. Hell if you claim to be a good pilot fly without a gunner, you all do it anyway.

If he is horribly horrible. I fly to the edge of the map and get the gunner out of the map while im safely inside on the border and the guy gets killed for abanadoning the battle . If he can hit something I give him a chance and hope next time il get a better gunner.

That is the thing, see. Not meaning to be rude, I am one of those people.  After all, it's a fucking game.  Most people see that the more hours you put in, the more sad you are.  Disagree with me if you like.  And people who don't believe this feel that they're above everyone else cause they spent more time in front of the pc.  woot.

I like being a pilot, and I am actually pretty proficient at it. But we all had to learn one time or another, so I know if they can't hit it the first time, I'll give them a second chance unless it starts to really hurt us...

I usually give the gunner some tips before I take off... like USE THE FACKING TV MISSLES.

I usually invite them to my squad so I can give them tips though VOIP.I don't like to verbally abuse my teammates. No sense in making enemy's among my own team.I'll give a ride to whoever ask for a pick up most of the time.If they suck just try help them out.

when i get a gunner that i dont know i ususally line them up for some shots. if he doesnt take them or fails miserably at all of them (not when you just miss them by a bit ... happens to all of us) i just fly as if i dont have a gunner. and if he is decent i will try to line him up

While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

I am happy to be the gunner in the attack helo but i seem to get alot of pilots that dont even care if you are their or not and fly around the map like a stunt pilot trying to kill all the targets with missle's. I do try and engage them in the chat but not very often do you get a response..!
When you get a good pilot it's great makes it all worth while.

Funny I usually give the pilot tips, it never fails... read my previous post up there. Pilots need to be a pilot, nothing more. NOSE UP. IF the pilot is doing what he's suppose to he wouldn't see the target that is close unless he's flying high. I find it easy to gun, its piloting that sucks, because when everybody on here says "line him up" nah, you are lining you up.
