Right now I'm using an LCD and everything is good with no problems.  I've heard that CRT has better picture and higher resolutions...anyone have any thoughts/opinions on this with regards to BF2?

I like my LCD.  Even if a CRT can run at a higer resolution, I like the portability of LCD.

LCD, because it can go huge, and still stay slim unlike a CRT. Having a bigger screen helps a lot in my opinion.

CRT, because I haven't had the need to buy LCD. When this old Dell M990 dies, LCD I'll go. But this thing keeps going, and going, and going. lol.

I have both, but the LCD is used for my secondary system and LAN parties.  My primary system still uses a 22" NEC CRT, and I have no plans to part with it until it dies.

I have a 17" LCD Flatscreen, with an 8ms refresh rate.  Awesome on a bun.
Good to be back.

I hate to say it.. but I'm going LCD also... Admittedly, the tubes can take higher frequencies, and a high res monitor is a lot cheaper as CRT than LCD... But a 21 inch'er just takes up too much space and weighs too much for my measly little desk.... So even though it's technically inferior, I'm going LCD.

CRTs will give you better quality etc etc, but they are juice suckers, a bitch to move around, and they never look as "sharp" as an LCD.

With regular LCD's getting pretty damn good (<6ms refresh) and high res, and top it off with other lcd type tech coming out, there's little reason to continue investing in CRTs (unless you get a great deal on a sell off from someone else taking the LCD plunge )

I have to say I recently made the switch (my 19" CRT died and I upgraded to a 20" LCD with 5ms response time). To be honest I was worried that I wouldn't like it and it would ghost, but I have yet to have any issues. I have to say I love it. My eyes don't seem to hurt anymore after a 5+ hour bf2 session.

Just my $.02.

I heard CRTs give a better viewing distance for BF2 on about evenly matched systems.  I honestly can't see how.

Pretty much same here.  I had a 19" Samsung 997DF and upgraded to a 19" Samsung CX913T LCD (8 ms) and could never go back.  Colors are so much more vibrant on an LCD than CRTs and it's much easier on the eyes after long periods.  Good for those 12 hours sessions on the weekends, haha.  I'll use my CRT as a secondary monitor when I get a bigger desk though.  It's still a decent monitor.

LCD's for me, they put off hardly any heat, are easier on your eyes, and as of late their performance is equal to that of a CRT.  You lose resolution flexibility, but some tweaking overcomes that.  I moved from CRT to LCD, and never looked back.

I'll use either... but will eventually prefer LCDs over CRTs.  I've a Viewsonic P225 21" CRT that has served me well for a long time.  It hasn't busted out on me and I'm hoping it won't prior to my plunge on a 20" widescreen panel.  I also have a 19" panel that I use as a second monitor.  I do like the difference between the two... sharper, a bit clearer, and the response time is about average.  Not too sure about the color, since I haven't watched movies or played any games on it.  But so far it's looking pretty good.

Got a 15" LCD, it looks great but i hate the way stuff only looks good at 1024x768, if i use any lower everything becomes blurry.

Yeah.. that's a HUGE problem with the LCDs, they're only built for one resolution.. if you use anything else (non symetrical) your viewing experience will be shit.

I'd prefer an LCD because of the slimnest, good resolution, and more good resolution. I have a 20,1" beauty and is right on.

I have a CRT and it's excellent for BF2 but only in a dark room, if I try to play a night or a dark map during the day the reflections drive me mad

well that really depends on the LCD.  If you have a slow response time, then sure.  But, as stated previously, with a good response time, you really won't see ghosting.

sorry guys, but CRT FTW for me.

i've got a 19" iiyama vision master pro 450, really old. up to 1600x1200 res 85hz refresh.

i've had it for ages and i love it. i had my pc at work one day for a rebuild, and i had a go on farcry thro a 17" lcd, and it looked horrible to me alsmost pixelated (1280x1024 res, AA on high) where as i have been used to playin F/C at 1600x1200.

even tho they're heavy and fat, i'd still hunt down a good 19/21" crt when my one gives it up

I went to a LCD about 8 months ago and love it.  My NEC can get so bright that I don't need night vision on the Night maps.

CRT's are slowly but surely being phased out.  This will take awhile yet, as there are many professionals who demand very high spec monitors to insure a quality output that many feel only a high end CRT can deliver.  However, LCD panels are slowly but surely closing the gap and many professionals are finally making the switch to LCD.

I purchased a dell 2405FPW and in spite of being concerned about gaming quality have never had a moments regret.  I run most games at 1920x1200 res (but be warned, you must have a high spec machine to get acceptable results at this res).  For the most part, the only people I have heard of going back from LCD to CRT are people who did not do dilligent research and made a poor choice.

LCD will replace CRT it is only a matter of time.  In the end though, only you can decide what is right for you.  You will never get an objective opinion on an internet forum as every single person will strive to justify thier own choices.

Set aside some time and let Google do the walking for you.  Educate yourself about LCD vs CRT and read until you can't stand to hear another word.  Only then will you be able to make a truly informed choice about what will be the better choice.
