what i do is i give them a couple of chances, give them tips and whatnot.. but if they really suck and i ask them to get out and they say no.. then i say i want to show them a sweet trick but i can only do it with one person.. it works 95% of the time

I love haveing a new player in the gunner seat. Like when they shoot there mini gun at a tank or an APC and then use the tv missle for infantry. Those are my favorite gunners, extremely skilled....-.-

I can honestly say that i am an above average pilot. AND gunner. So when i'm flying on a pub server and a random hops in, they have one chance to prove themselves otherwise its

"Bail out!"
followed by
[M7] Zer0verride <team>:         Get out or die

then its redzone and off to either find a gunner i know i can trust, or solo. Because the truth of it is that an incompetent gunner is not only bringing the pilot down, but the whole team. When I can fly/gun with a decent other, my team need fear no tanks/apcs/choppers because my team know that Q-Click brings swift direct annihilation to anything big and scary that mops up ground-pounders.

The single most annoying thing in the game (besides PKM whores, nade spammers, idiot medics... ok theres a big list there) is to be a good gunner with a pilot who doesnt know how to fly calmly/line up TVs/etc.

For the record, i currently prefer piloting and i ALWAYS prefer a decent gunner to soloing, because while soloMGing is in my capabilities, i'd rather be able to dodge things. Opposition have a habit of trying to AT me.

</rant>

-[M7] Zer0verride

BTW, to any decent pilots/gunners/solos who can get a decent ping to australian servers, i'm half in the process of setting up an unofficial chopper tournament. If you're interested, PM or xfire me.

It really doesn't bother me massively, since I'm not that into seatswitching. Of course it'll suck serious ass if you get TV:d after succesfully avoided the 3 first missiles and your gunner is still going "rrr-attattatatatata..". But then again, if the adversarys chopper is unused or piloted by a crappy gunner/pilot, and your own gunner has proven himself to be a waste of bandwidth, I just pretend he's not there and practise on my hellfire-skills on all targets. Sure, I might give him the occasional perfect line-up for a shot accompanied with a "we got hostile armor!" If he still doesn't shoot, back to totally disregarding his/her existance. Although the unnecessary use of guns just raises attention, making my job just a bit more difficult.

PS. I shout "bail out" only when my gunner ([FF]Ubersturmbannfuhrer) is on the server on my side. Too bad not many bad gunners really understand how much good his bailing out might do for the team

I am so sick of those players who seem to be blind, not shooting at any infantry. or the vast, vast majority of players who could not hit a chopper with a TV guided missle to save their mom.
oh right, because i'm sure everyone should be able to do that at the start of the game?

wth man? that's probably one of the most difficult things to do in this game (assuming the enemy chopper and/or your chopper are moving)

the only thing that is anywhere near that hard is hitting a high speed plane with a Tank shell or SRAW rocket

but yeah, i don't fly choppers much, and when i do, i always seem to have a good gunner/pilot... so whatever (about 40 of my 47 deaths were when i started the game... , i was like 0-40 or something before i started to get good)

Ive got my expert helicopter badge a couple of days ago, 100 hours of it piloting and such, I give everyone a chance when I feel like it, they miss everything or shoot in a straight line, back to carrier and tell them to bail out, rather fly alone

I'm rather disappointed to see all the replies with "redline" and "redzone" solutions for a "lame gunner."  That's lame in itself, and I'd almost hope that such "kindness" is repaid in return with a M95 headshot.  Mind you, I did say almost...

However, the best solution I've seen yet was this reply:

If he/she sucks I disreguard thay are even there. If I rely on them will will be killed for shure...
No needless TK'ing (and yes, a redzone death is a TK in my book), and chances are that the gunner is gonna eventually get bored when they aren't making kills, all because the pilot isn't lining up shots for them, and bail.  If not, at least the pilot is still making kills.

I have spent most of my time in helos as the pilot, maybe 10% of it as gunner if I count high.
I’m pretty relaxed with having a newbe gunner, that’s not a big problem as long as they agree on joining my team or that I can join their team if they are already in one.
After that it’s just all about talking to each other and teach them how to be a good gunner, or if they are already are a good gunner then it’s just to learn each others play style so that you can anticipate what the person will do in a specific scenario.

I also have a lowest-quality-gunner-line that they must be better then to ride with me.
If they don’t pass it I will ask them to “bail out” or I will fly to a "redzone" with them.

But to pass it is pretty easy, a gunner that do communicate with me but misses easy targets with the missile is in my view still a decent gunner.
The missile is a hard thing to learn and I have no problem to spend some minutes in the beginning of our time to practice TV against enemies on the ground or mock targets like an empty building.
After a few test shots with the missile they will be able to kill ground targets easy, the helos are harder but nothing is impossible with some more training shots.

One of the best gunners I have had in the game was a newbe gunner when we meet.
He was about the same age as me 30+ and also an ex military, and after a few good laughs and way of targets missiles he became deadly as hell with it.
And the teamwork that we built up between us was really frightening to see, the enemy didn’t had a chance when we circled around the hotspots and gave support to our advancing units.
We waiting behind a ridge and fired missiles from behind it against the spotted mobil-AA, enemy helos and just raped their infantry when the coast was cleared.
If we missed a missile we just reloaded a new one and tried again, no need to rush.

To all the pilots that only gives the gunner One chance.
Try to talk to the gunner and give them more then one chance.
You might be surprised and find a new “gunner from hell”.

what gets me pissed off even more than that is when you have just flown with then, knowing they aren't very good yet and they beat you to the heli and automatically switch to the gunner seat, it gets me so angry. one time i saw this guy doing it and stood there for atleast 40 secs, realised he wasn't going to change, took off and got some height and tilted the nose up into the air and bailed out and did this at least 5 times to him and he still didn't decide to bail out. i think its just arrogant that people instantly get to the chopper and switch for the gunner seat where they should be able to do both because they won't always be able to get it and when they don't get the gunner seat they screw the gunner over because they can't fly.

I first attempt to coach them and make them better however if they are unwilling and don't listen then I will use whatever method I deem neccessary to eject them from the gunner seat.

I think ill drop my 2 cence in here

right history .. learnt to fly in beta and then solo'd in single then progressed .. was a clan gunner/pilot and then went into the GLobal ASsault tourny ... then 21CW and now i pretty much exclusivly play on ASoldierswar.com

why.... because of teamspeak and the fact i (due to my rank) get to choose my gunner

on Pubs if theres a few of us going on - yes obviously we go to both get the chopper - and this doesnt always work ..and if on pub play when i get a pilot that doesnt know shit /having a bad day .. or a gunner whos new..

I do the following .. chances to hit targets .. keeping myself and the helo alive ..
if hes' only using machine gun .. guess what .. i give him infantry targets..
ill take on the tanks/apcs.... and rack up nice loads of assists because im giving the gunner the easy stuff .

indeed theres times when i go solo .. but i would still choose a gunner .. why .. the extra pair of eyes .. even a noob gunner will shoot at a threat.

im not even that good of a pilot yet im able to give gunners a decent shot and it is sort of annoying when they dont take it AT ALL, i mean even if they attempted to use the tv missle and miss i dont mind, but when they do nothing it can be annoying. but in the end, its just a game. i mean yeah sure you want to win and you want points, but at the end of the day ive got no idea who the gunner was and i made my points some other way (capping flags or just using my own missles) so all is not lost if u have an inexperienced gunner. just think outside the square, ive even fixed arty in the attack chopper lol

I can't fly a helo for shit, I'm crap, I will hold my hands up and admit that.  If you look at my stats I have not spent much time in a chopper, but I think I am quite a good gunner (have tv missiled 3 planes don't know how hard this is but I was impressed).
I find that the PILOT makes the difference between a good gunner and a bad gunner, if you get a pilot that flys for themselves and only concentrates on missiling themselves rather than hovering just for 5 seconds so the gunner can line up a tv missile or pound those ground troops with the gun then you are gonna be a shit gunner cos you can't see where you are going and stuff to shoot till you have gone passed it (I appreciate that in a fight with another chopper it would be suicide to hover), the number of times I have been abused for being a so called shit gunner when the pilot has not hovered or flown so I can tvmissile is endless.
So all you pilots that moan about shit gunners think about whether you fly for your self or for your gunner
ok flame away dudes
