Well, when I first bought Special Forces (Like a month ago), I got this problem also. Even though my original BF2 was as updated as possible with the new patch, I still had to reinstall the newest patch.
So, make sure you either redownload or reinstall the newest patch.

If the problem is with vanilla bf2 go to "Battlefield 2\mods\bf2"
If the problem is with SF go to "Battlefield 2\mods\xpack"
There you need to unpack the "Shaders_client.zip" to the "shaders" folder
