I spend alot of time as a sniper and as a squad leader and one thing that just pisses me off is commanders that order you to a flag surrounded by enemy then when you decline the order because your by yourself and  you get arty on your head.

If this is you listen up.

1. The snipers main role is recon from hidden nooks and crannies scattered around the map. consider us an extra UAV.

2. The second role is the ability for long range kills on soft targets. IE the spec ops guy sneaking up on our tank when the noob driver is sitting next to a supply crate or defending a flag from the lone guy that just halo jumped from a jet. We simply cannot attack an enemy force with a pistol and a bolt action rifle.

3. A smart sniper is also a squad leader. It gives the advantage of calling in supplies, arty, UAV or just calling out targets as we see them so the guy hauling ass into a flag knows there is an apc waiting for him.

4. Arty magnet. Snipers are hated so naturally we take more than a fair share of arty. I dont mind it one bit simply because when the dumbass on the other team is raining down terror on me hes neglecting my teammates taking his last flag.

Now if I am in a full squad and im the leader order away and ill send my mates that direction but the lone sniper on the hill or under a rock thats calling out targets for you cannot and wont attack a flag unless hes the last one alive so save your arty for the enemy.

Thats my take on it anyways.

but there's nothing worse then being that squad leader sniper and some moron spawns on you and runs in circles giving away your position

So lock the squad after you make it.

I appreciate the sniper squads I get on occassion.  Nothing makes me feel worse than putting a well-aimed supply crate on their head.  (*trust me dude, I was trying to help*)  They always seem to drift a little further North than I anticipate - lol.

His rant has nothing to do with people joining his squad, it's all about the commander

@OP: I agree with you wholeheartedly on your post, but I just wanted to make sure that you're not actually dying from the arty strikes as they show up on your own radar and give you plenty of time to move.  If they don't then it's the enemy commander getting a legit kill on an annoying sniper

I was commander yesterday, and I spotted a Sniper. I put the little artillery icon directly above his head. Not one strike hit the guy.

I disagree with you saying Snipers should be squad leaders. I myself have been a squad member as a sniper. i moved with the squad and scouted out an enemy base before we went in. I stayed on the outskirts popping off potential threats until we had the place under control etc.

I hate being in a squad with a Sniper leader. It means that when I spawn on them, I am instantly in on out of the way place. Also, it's bad for the sniper, if he's hiding away and appearing squad members give away his position.

You are right about one thing though. Snipers should not take flags. Often skillful Snipers will find that they are the last ones left behind enemy territory, but that's just fine - we're self sufficient.

As a Snipe, those are all fine points.

I, meself, will be a squad member most of the time. When I need a drop, i'll create my own squad , request, fuel up, then go back into squad as a member.

Having people spawn on me isn't prefered, I donot need the attention.
However....say I'm atop the build of 'square' in Karkland, all flags have fallen to MEC, I will immediately start a squad up, announce to the whole team 'ROOF square spawn on ME!!!'  assault types spawn , and begin retaking flag from the MEC rear.

I agree that for full-size squads, medics and support are the best, but that doesn't mean that snipers can't make good squad leaders, perhaps in a squad of two, with the other also being a sniper.

I don't play sniper much, but the times that I've enjoyed myself the most were all when I was SL and I was able to coordinate with the commander to help clear out areas before assault by main battle squads. In Sharqi, for example, the commander was able to tell me where all the enemy snipers were that were stalling our advance down the southern side, and I flanked them and took them out. (They'd found areas that were effectively artillery proof.) If I hadn't been a SL, communicating with him would have been very cumbersome; VOIP is just so easy and doesn't take up too much of his time.

So, snipers that find a nice hidey-hole and kill things from it might as well be lone wolves, while snipers that are more aggressive can be more easily made valuable tools of the CO if they are squad leaders.
